A synthetic saponite clay containing structural Nb(V) metal centres (NbSAP) was investigated in the abatement of paraoxon-ethyl, an anti-cholinergic organophosphorus pesticide, under mild conditions (neutral pH, room temperature and ambient pressure) in heterogenous phase, without additional basic additives. The material was selected according to its high surface acidity and ease of preparation through a one-step hydrothermal synthesis. The presence of Nb(V) ions played a crucial role in efficiently catalysing the degradation of aggressive chemical substrates.

The black soldier fly (BSF) can grow rapidly and on a wide variety of organic materials, and it is extensively used as a means of disposing of household organic waste. Different phases of the life cycle of BSF larvae (BSFL) are used in this work to extract chitin after the removal of lipids, mineral salts, and proteins. Multiple techniques, such as X-ray diffractometry, infrared spectroscopy, solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (C ss-NMR) and thermogravimetric analysis, are used to investigate the chemical and physical characteristics of the extracted samples of chitin, which shows a high degree of acetylation (from 78% to 94%).

Aging comes with the loss of muscle and bone mass, leading to a condition known as osteosarcopenia. Circulating, cellular, and tissue biomarkers research for osteosarcopenia is relatively scarce and, currently, no established biomarkers exist. Here we find that osteosarcopenic patients exhibited elevated basophils and TNFα levels, along with decreased aPPT, PT/INR, IL15, alpha-Klotho, DHEA-S, and FGF-2 expression and distinctive bone and muscle tissue micro-architecture and biomarker expressions.

AL amyloidosis is a life-threatening disease caused by deposition of immunoglobulin light chains. While the mechanisms underlying light chains amyloidogenesis in vivo remain unclear, several studies have highlighted the role that tissue environment and structural amyloidogenicity of individual light chains have in the disease pathogenesis. AL natural deposits contain both full-length light chains and fragments encompassing the variable domain (V) as well as different length segments of the constant region (C), thus highlighting the relevance that proteolysis may have in the fibrillogenesis pathway.
