The data generated in nearly 30 years of bacterial genome sequencing has revealed the abundance of transposable elements (TE) and their importance in genome and transcript remodeling through the mediation of DNA insertions and deletions, structural rearrangements, and regulation of gene expression. Furthermore, what we have learned from studying transposition mechanisms and their regulation in bacterial TE is fundamental to our current understanding of TE in other organisms because much of what has been observed in bacteria is conserved in all domains of life. However, unlike eukaryotic TE, prokaryotic TE sequester and transmit important classes of genes that impact host fitness, such as resistance to antibiotics and heavy metals and virulence factors affecting animals and plants, among other acquired traits.

To gain insight into the biology of the causal agent, the complete genome sequences of four Brazilian Xanthomonas albilineans strains with differing virulence capabilities are presented and compared to the GPEPC73 reference strain and FJ1. Based on the aggressiveness index, different strains were compared: Xa04 and Xa11 are highly aggressive, Xa26 is intermediate, and Xa21 is the least, while, based on genome structure, Xa04 shares most of its genomic features with Xa26, and Xa11 share most of its genomic features with Xa21.

The disease was first reported in the western United States (USA) on several Juglans species, but has been found more recently in the eastern USA in the native range of the highly susceptible Juglans nigra. We performed a comprehensive population genetic study of 209 G.

Plant pathogenic oomycetes, including Phytophthora, Pythium and downy mildew species, cause devastating diseases on a wide range of host species and have a significant impact on agriculture. Here, we report comparative analyses on the genomes of thirteen straminipilous species, including eleven plant pathogenic oomycetes, to explore common features linked to their pathogenic lifestyle.

We performed an in silico analysis of CAZymes predicted from the genomes of seven Pythium species (Py. aphanidermatum, Py.

Whole genome sequencing and comparative analyses disclosed a high degree of identity and co-linearity of the chromosome backbone between species and strains. Differences observed are usually clustered into genomic islands, most of which are delimited by genetic mobile elements.
