Purpose: To histologically quantify the different tissues that make up the porcine ureter, (epithelial, connective, and muscular tissue) in the three segments labelled: cranial, middle and caudal, in order to identify the segment most compatible for use as a vascular graft.
Methods: Fifteen porcine ureters were collected, divided into the three segments, and the samples were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, picrosirius red and Weigert's resorcin-fuchsin. The immunohistochemistry technique was applied for alpha-smooth muscle actin.

Purpose: Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a human papillomavirus (HPV)-related disease affecting the upper airway and saliva could be an important non-invasive sampling source for viral screening and clinical monitoring. We investigated whether HPV DNA could be detected in saliva (cellular pellets and supernatant) from RRP patients and influence on clinical manifestation of the disease.
Materials And Methods: In this pilot study, saliva samples from 14 RRP patients were obtained in preoperative condition (n = 7) and in disease-free interval (DFI; n = 7).

We purified the main 2,4-D metabolites from resistant and susceptible plants, solved their structures by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and synthesized the metabolites to determine their toxicity. Susceptible plants conjugated 2,4-D to aspartate to form 2,4-D-aspartic acid (2,4-D-Asp), while resistant plants had a unique metabolic profile where 2,4-D was hydroxylated into 5-OH-2,4-D, followed by conjugation into a sugar metabolite (2,4-D-5--d-glucopyranoside) and subsequent malonylation into 2,4-D-(6'--malonyl)-5--d-glucopyranoside.

Unlabelled: Little is known about stroke patients' awareness about the warning signs of stroke and its therapeutic time window in Brazil.
Method: We interviewed consecutive patients with acute stroke admitted to a terciary public hospital in Brazil. Data collected included demographics, mode of arrival, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores and knowledge of stroke warning signs and therapeutic time window.

Objective: Atrial fibrillation is a common arrhythmia that increases the risk of stroke by four- to five-fold. We aimed to establish a profile of patients with atrial fibrillation from a population of patients admitted with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack using clinical and echocardiographic findings.
Methods: We evaluated patients consecutively admitted to a tertiary hospital with acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack.
Foot drop syndrome is a frequent neurologic condition usually caused by peroneal nerve damage. On rare occasions, foot drop may present as the single neurologic manifestation of intracranial lesions. Endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke is an important alternative to thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) for patients who present beyond the thrombolysis time window, those who are ineligible for rt-PA, or those who do not improve after intravenous rt-PA. These patients generally require special attention in the postprocedural period because, although not frequent, complications of endovascular procedures in acute ischemic stroke have the potential to be devastating.
