Hepatic perivascular epithelioid cell tumors: Benign, malignant, and uncertain malignant potential.

In 2013, the World Health Organization defined perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) as "a mesenchymal tumor which shows a local association with vessel walls and usually expresses melanocyte and smooth muscle markers." This generic definition seems to better fit the PEComa family, which includes angiomyolipoma, clear cell sugar tumor of the lung, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and a group of histologically and immunophenotypically similar tumors that include primary extrapulmonary sugar tumor and clear cell myomelanocytic tumor. Clear cell tumors with this immunophenotypic pattern have also had their malignant variants described.

Neurenteric Cyst of the Ventral Craniocervical Junction: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Background: Neurenteric cysts (NCs) are rare, non-neoplastic lesions arising from a failure of dissolution of the transient neurenteric canal between the foregut and the notochord. They are most frequently seen in the intradural extramedullary space in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spine. The authors describe a rare case of NC arising from the ventral cervicomedullary junction that was totally resected via a posterior approach.

Dress syndrome and fulminant hepatic failure induced by lamotrigine.

Lamotrigine is a non-aromatic antiepileptic drug. Drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a severe idiosyncratic reaction to drugs, especially anti-epileptic drugs. Associated clinical features include cutaneous eruption, fever, multiple peripheral lymphadenopathies, and potentially life-threatening damage of one or more organs.

Transthyretin familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy: histopathological study of the explanted livers.

FAP is an autosomal dominant inherited disease, characterized by systemic deposition of amyloid fibrils in various tissues. The purpose of this study is to describe the gross and microscopic findings of the explanted livers for FAP.10 patients were transplanted for FAP at our institution.
