Background/purpose: The present study aimed to investigate plastic tubes without additives as alternatives to glass and silica-coated plastic tubes, in the production of PRF membranes.

Materials And Methods: Nine blood samples were collected from eight volunteers ( = 8) separated into three groups, according to tube material: glass, silica-coated plastic, and plastic without additives. In each group, the samples were centrifuged using different relative centrifugation forces: L-PRF (700 g/12 min), A-PRF (200 g/14 min), and A-PRF + (200 g/8 min).

Background: Local anesthetic puncture is often related to the experience of pain. This study aimed to systematically analyze the literature on changes in pain perception during the anesthetic puncture of dental local anesthesia after Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT).

Material And Methods: An electronic search was performed in eight primary databases (Embase, LILACS, BBO, LIVIVO, MedLine via PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, and Web of Science) and three additional ones (EASY, Google Scholar, and OATD) to partially capture the "gray literature".

Objectives: To investigate, through a network meta-analysis, the effectiveness of blood concentrates in reducing pain perception, trismus, and edema after mandibular third molar extraction.

Materials And Methods: An electronic search was performed in nine databases to locate randomized clinical trials comparing blood concentrate use after mandibular third molar extraction. Two authors selected and extracted the data independently.

Article Synopsis
  • The review assesses the effectiveness and safety of deoxycholic acid injections for reducing submental fat compared to a placebo and examines potential bias from industry sponsorship in clinical trials.
  • After reviewing 5,756 studies, only five randomized clinical trials met the criteria, with only two showing a low risk of bias while all indicated potential industry bias.
  • The findings suggest that deoxycholic acid is effective for fat reduction with manageable adverse effects, but the conclusions are tempered by the low to moderate evidence quality and the presence of industry influence.

Purpose: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has been used in several fields of dentistry to improve tissue healing. However, PRF from glass tubes results in a limited number of small membranes, increasing clinical difficulty and work time. The aim of this study was to evaluate cell and platelet amounts and biomechanical strength of PRF-giant membranes produced from plastic tubes without additives.

This systematic review assessed the effectiveness of ozone (O) in the color change of in-office tooth bleaching in vital teeth (TB) and the sensitivity control. Only randomized controlled clinical trials were included. Seven databases were used as primary search sources, and three additional sources were searched to capture the "grey literature" partially.

Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is complex and multifactorial. Its etiology involves various factors, such as malocclusion, psychological patterns, parafunctional habits, and the temporomandibular joint anatomy. Symptoms include myofascial pain, joint clicking, mouth opening limitation, headaches, earaches, and neck pain, comprising one of the greatest causes of nondental pain.

Odontogenic abscess can become an orbital cellulitis, causing potentially serious intracranial and orbital complications. The full clinical complications from odontogenic orbital cellulitis in a pediatric patient are rarely seen daily in hospital emergency departments. Thus, odontogenic orbital cellulitis still remains a rarity, resulting in a medical challenge.

Fractures of the severely atrophic (<10 mm) edentulous mandible are not common, and these fractures with a vertical height of 10 mm or less have long been recognized as being particularly problematic. Although there are advances in the treatment of the atrophic mandibular fracture, the treatment remains controversial. There are some options for treatment planning because of using small miniplates to large reconstruction plates.
