Pharmacokinetic of ceftazidime-avibactam in a critically ill patient under high-volume continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration: A first paediatric case report.

Ceftazidime-avibactam is a novel cephalosporin/B-lactamase inhibitor developed in the context of increasing resistance. This case reports the pharmacokinetics of ceftazidime-avibactam in a critically ill child under continuous renal replacement (CRRT) therapy for fluid overload. The patient was a 6-month-old female with sepsis due to bloodstream infection to Stenotrophomonas maltophilia following stem cell transplantation for severe combined immunodeficiency.

Severe atypical Lemierre syndrome caused by methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus: Two pediatric case reports.

Background: Lemierre syndrome is typically associated with ear, nose, and throat (ENT) infections caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum. Since 2002, cases of atypical Lemierre-like syndrome secondary to Staphylococcus aureus have been reported.

Cases: We report two pediatric cases of atypical Lemierre syndrome with a similar presentation: exophthalmia, absence of pharyngitis, metastatic lung infection, and intracranial venous sinus thrombosis.

Pharmacokinetic profile of acyclovir in a child receiving continuous kidney replacement therapy for acute liver failure.

Background: Continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) is one of the treatments of critically ill children presenting severe acute liver failure. This affliction might be induced by HSV infection requiring a treatment by acyclovir. Continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) can alter its pharmacokinetics, according to its physicochemical properties and CVVHDF settings.

The role of irinotecan-bevacizumab as rescue regimen in children with low-grade gliomas: a retrospective nationwide study in 72 patients.

Introduction: At least half of children with low-grade glioma (LGG) treated with first line chemotherapy experience a relapse/progression and may therefore need a second-line chemotherapy. Irinotecan-bevacizumab has been recommended in this setting in France after encouraging results of pilot studies. We performed a retrospective analysis to define the efficacy, toxicity and predictors for response to the combination on a larger cohort.

Case Report: Cerebrovascular Events Associated With Bacterial and SARS-CoV-2 Infections in an Adolescent.

Neurologic manifestations associated with Covid-19 are increasingly reported, especially stroke and acute cerebrovascular events. Beyond cardiovascular risk factors associated with age, some young adults without medical or cardiovascular history had stroke as a presenting feature of Covid-19. Suggested stroke mechanisms in this setting are inflammatory storm, subsequent hypercoagulability, and vasculitis.

Severe and fatal forms of COVID-19 in children.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe severe forms of novel coronavirus disease 2019 in children, including patient characteristics, clinical, laboratory, and imaging findings, as well as the disease management and outcomes.

Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center, observational study conducted in a pediatric intensive and high-dependency care unit (PICU, HDU) in an urban hospital in Paris. All patients, aged from 1 month to 18 years, admitted for confirmed or highly suspected SARS-CoV-2 were included.

Report of severe accidental baclofen intoxication in a healthy 4-year-old boy and review of the literature.

The number of reports on baclofen intoxication has increased in recent years. Here we report the case of a 4-year-old boy in deep coma who was referred to the pediatric intensive care unit. The patient was intubated and mechanically ventilated.

Laparoscopic Revision of Bariatric Surgeries in Two Patients with Severe Resistant Hypocalcemia After Endocrine Cervical Surgery.

Severe hypocalcemia complicating cervical endocrine surgery in patients with gastric bypass can constitute a major concern. When usual therapies fail to maintain calcemia within the normal range without secondary adverse events, reversal of the bariatric surgery should be considered. We herein report the outcomes of laparoscopic revision of bariatric surgeries in two patients suffering from severe resistant hypocalcemia following cervical surgery, requiring in one case recombinant PTH administration and, in the other, daily intravenous calcium injections.

Foetal exposure to mitotane/Op'DDD: Post-natal study of four children.

Objective: Mitotane/Op'DDD is used in the treatment of adrenocortical carcinoma and for other causes of hypercortisolism. Mitotane inhibits cortisol secretion and displays adrenolytic and antitumor actions. This compound is a metabolite of the pesticide and endocrine disruptor DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) and is classified among teratogenic compounds worldwide.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare sarcoma that typically affects pediatric and young adult patients with a median age in the general and in the pediatric population of 24.6 years (range 4-58 years) and 15.0 years (range 0-21 years) respectively, with a strong male predominance.

Progestin-associated shift of meningioma mutational landscape.

Background: Meningiomas are the most common primary tumor of the central nervous system. The relationship between meningioma and progestins is frequently mentioned but has not been elucidated.

Patients And Methods: We identified 40 female patients operated for a meningioma after long-term progestin therapy and performed targeted next generation sequencing to decipher the mutational landscape of hormone-related meningiomas.

[Complement terminal fraction deficiency revealed at first invasive meningococcal infection].

Prevalence of complement protein deficiency in the general population is rare and its association with an increased risk of meningococcal infection is well established. However, management of these patients with potentially serious infections and indications warranting a search for such a deficiency have not met with consensus.
