The aim of this study is to update the mortality and hospitalization analyses concerning the 6,227,531 inhabitants (10.4% of the Italian population) residing in 46 contaminated sites (39 of national interest and 7 of regional interest).

In the following weeks, Lombardy experienced a sudden increase in the number of ascertained infections and strict measures were imposed to contain the epidemic spread.
Methods: We analyzed official records of cases occurred in Lombardy to characterize the epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 during the early phase of the outbreak.

Left untreated or with failure of the Kasai procedure, biliary atresia progresses to biliary cirrhosis, end-stage liver failure and death within the first years of life. Differentiating biliary atresia from other nonsurgical causes of neonatal cholestasis is difficult as there is no single method for diagnosing biliary atresia and clinical, laboratory and imaging features of this disease overlap with those of other causes of neonatal cholestasis.

Exception to this gradient is represented by Sardinia, the second largest Mediterranean island whose population shows the highest incidence in Europe, after Finland. The genetic features of this population have created a fertile ground for the epidemic of the disease, however, as well as being strikingly high, the incidence rate has suddenly presented a continuous increase from the '50s, not explainable by accumulation of new genetic variants.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 852 consecutive patients (726 CHC and 126 CHB) who had undergone liver biopsy. We recorded age, sex, ALT, type 2 diabetes and/or metabolic syndrome (MS), body mass index (BMI), and apparent disease duration (ADD).
Background/aims: In this study, we determined the genotypic and allelic frequencies of the Interleukin (IL)-10(-1082G/A) IL-10(-592A/C), and IL-10(-819C/T) polymorphisms, and their association with the risk to develop B cell Non Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) in hepatitis virus C (HCV) carriers.
Results: Genetic polymorphisms in the IL-10 gene promoter were studied in 250 consecutive patients with B-cell NHL with no clinical and/or laboratory findings of cryoglobulinemia, 142 NHL/HCV- and 108 NHL/HCV+ with chronic hepatitis (CH), 120 consecutive subjects with HCV-related CH, and 110 age, sex-matched healthy blood donors.
