Article Synopsis
  • The Prostate Urine Risk (PUR) biomarker categorizes patients into four risk levels for prostate cancer, helping to predict outcomes before biopsy and during active surveillance.
  • The study explored how PUR-4 status correlates with Gleason grade and tumor volume, finding significant ties between PUR-4 levels and the presence of Gleason Pattern 4 tumors, particularly in larger tumor volumes of certain Gleason grades.
  • Results suggest that the PUR biomarker could serve as a non-invasive tool for identifying clinically significant prostate cancer, emphasizing its importance in assessing cancer severity.

Purpose: Liquid biopsies that noninvasively detect molecular correlates of aggressive prostate cancer (PCa) could be used to triage patients, reducing the burdens of unnecessary invasive prostate biopsy and enabling early detection of high-risk disease. DNA hypermethylation is among the earliest and most frequent aberrations in PCa. We investigated the accuracy of a six-gene DNA methylation panel (Epigenetic Cancer of the Prostate Test in Urine [epiCaPture]) at detecting PCa, high-grade (Gleason score greater than or equal to 8) and high-risk (D'Amico and Cancer of the Prostate Risk Assessment] PCa from urine.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are trying to find better ways to tell if someone has dangerous prostate cancer without doing invasive procedures like biopsies.
  • They tested a special test called ProCUrE that looks at DNA changes in urine to see if it can help spot aggressive prostate cancer earlier.
  • The test showed it could improve diagnosis and predict risk better than the standard test (PSA), making it a helpful tool for doctors.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of fluoroquinolone prophylaxis in patients undergoing transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS)-guided biopsy of the prostate in the Norwich population, and its correlation with ciprofloxacin resistance in the faecal flora. We also aimed to determine the usefulness of a pre-biopsy rectal screen for resistant bacteria in these patients.

Patients And Methods: The incidence and microbiology of sepsis after TRUS-guided prostate biopsies between 2007 and 2011 was audited retrospectively.

Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) are widely used to treat benign hypertension. These drugs are generally well tolerated. Serious side effects such as angio-oedema are very rare.
