Guided Endodontics: Volume of Dental Tissue Removed by Guided Access Cavity Preparation-An Ex Vivo Study.

Introduction: Guided endodontics emerged as an alternative method capable of providing greater precision and accuracy to endodontic treatments. The aim of the present study was to compare the volume of dental tissue removed after guided endodontic access (GEA) and conventional endodontic access (CEA) to mandibular incisors and upper molars.

Methods: Twenty extracted human mandibular incisors and upper molars were selected and submitted to cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) examination.

Effect of different intraradicular posts in the dimensions of root canal computed tomography images.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of different intraradicular posts on the dimensions of computed tomography (CT) images in cone-beam and fan-beam equipment.

Materials And Methods: : A total of 15 root canals of bovine teeth were instrumented up to a file #50 and root-filled by the active lateral condensation technique. The teeth were randomly divided into three groups, according to the type of intraradicular post: 1) tight fiberglass post; 2) anatomical fiberglass post; and 3) metal post.

The effect of preventive oral care on treatment outcomes of a cohort of oral cancer patients.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess patient adherence to an oral preventive measures (OPM) protocol and its impact on cancer treatment outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective cohort of oral cancer of 133 patients submitted to radiotherapy (RT) was selected, excluding those with metastasis. Patients were grouped according to their local tumor response after finishing RT (favorable or unfavorable) and adherence to an OPM (none, ≤6 months, and >6 months).

Pleomorphic adenoma of oral minor salivary glands: An investigation of its neoplastic potential based on apoptosis, mucosecretory activity and cellular proliferation.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the neoplastic potential of the PA of minor oral salivary glands measured by apoptosis (Bcl-2, Bax and p53), mucosecretory activity (MUC1), and cellular proliferation (Ki-67).

Design: Thirty-one cases of PA of the oral cavity and four controls (C) taken from normal oral minor salivary glands were analyzed using the immunohistochemistry technique. The proteins were detected utilizing a semi-quantitative method (scores) as follows: (-) negative ≤5%, (+) low 6-25%, (++) moderate 26-50% and (+++) high >50% of positive tumour cells.
