Background: Regression is an immunological phenomenon described in cutaneous melanoma whereby tumor is replaced with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, granulation tissue, and mature fibroblasts often accompanied by pigment incontinence (accumulation of melanin in the upper dermis). Pigment incontinence results in grossly pigmented lesions that may be mistaken for viable tumor and has not been described in sinonasal mucosal melanoma (SNMM). This study investigates the presence of regression and pigment incontinence in patients with SNMM.

Background: Veterans transitioning to civilian life often have chronic pain from service-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) with higher risk for substance misuse. Many seek VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) compensation for MSD. Use of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment for Pain Management (SBIRT-PM) by VA Post-9/11 Military2VA (M2VA) case managers presents an opportunity to engage these veterans in VA pain care and address substance misuse.

Control of a bioprocess is a challenging task mainly due to the nonlinearity of the process, the complex nature of microorganisms, and variations in critical parameters such as temperature, pH, and agitator speed. Generally, the optimum values chosen for critical parameters during Escherichia coli (E.coli) K-12fed-batch fermentation are37 C for temperature, 7 for pH, and 35 % for Dissolved Oxygen (DO).

Background And Objectives: Risky substance use (RSU) is common among people with chronic pain and is associated with worse pain treatment outcomes. Nonopioid treatment is recommended, but it is unknown whether people with RSU use different or fewer pain treatment modalities. This study describes use of different pain treatments by veterans with and without RSU and those receiving versus not receiving opioid medication.

Silent sinus syndrome (SSS) and chronic maxillary atelectasis (CMA) represent an overlapping clinical entity, both likely lying on the spectrum of one disease process. There is widespread inconsistency of diagnosis in the literature of reported cases of SSS and CMA. We propose a novel, comprehensive staging system to simplify diagnosis and inform management.

This study examines the impact of dupilumab on medication use for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) and asthma patients. Patients on dupilumab had a reduction in oral/inhaled/topical steroids, antibiotics, and leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs). The reduction in medication use had no impact on total polyp or SNOT-22 scores.

The current study characterizes a cohort of veteran claims filed with the Veterans Benefits Administration for posttraumatic stress disorder secondary to experiencing military sexual trauma, compares posttraumatic stress disorder service-connection award denial for military sexual trauma-related claims versus combat-related claims, and examines military sexual trauma -related award denial across gender and race. We conducted analyses on a retrospective national cohort of veteran claims submitted and rated between October 2017-May 2022, including 102,409 combat-related claims and 31,803 military sexual trauma-related claims. Descriptive statistics were calculated, logistic regressions assessed denial of service-connection across stressor type and demographics, and odds ratios were calculated as effect sizes.

Objective: Encephaloceles of the lateral sphenoid sinus are rare. Originally believed to be due to defects in a patent lateral craniopharyngeal canal (Sternberg canal), they are now thought to originate more commonly from idiopathic intracranial hypertension, not unlike encephaloceles elsewhere in the skull base. A new classification of these encephaloceles was recently introduced, which divided them in relation to the foramen rotundum.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks of the anterior cranial base are frequently repaired with endonasal, multilayered reconstructions. Vascularized tissue flaps are superior to free mucosal grafts and biomaterials in many cases. Limitations of previously described flaps include reach, rotation, pedicle availability, and postoperative sinonasal morbidity.

Background: The quinoline-3-carboxamide, Tasquinimod (TasQ), is orally active as a maintenance therapy with an on-target mechanism-of-action via allosteric binding to HDAC4. This prevents formation of the HDAC4/NCoR1/HDAC3 complex, disrupting HIF-1α transcriptional activation and repressing MEF-2 target genes needed for adaptive survival signaling in the compromised tumor micro environment. In phase 3 clinical testing against metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer(mCRPC), TasQ (1 mg/day) increased time-to-progression, but not overall survival.
