This study examined the link between common risk factors and the development of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis in patients who had supportive implant therapy for at least 5 years.
It included 84 patients with 169 implants, finding that 52% had peri-implant mucositis and 18% had peri-implantitis, with certain risk factors identified.
The study concluded that having multiple implants increases the risk of mucositis, while smoking and lack of keratinized mucosa increase the risk of peri-implantitis, highlighting the need for preventive strategies.
