Importance: Speech recognition outcomes with a cochlear implant (CI) are highly variable. One factor suggested to correlate with CI-aided speech recognition is frequency-to-place mismatch, or the discrepancy between the natural tonotopic organization of the cochlea and the electric frequency allocation of the CI electrodes within the patient's cochlea.

Objective: To evaluate the association between frequency-to-place mismatch and speech recognition outcomes in a large cohort of postlingually deafened adult CI users, while controlling for various clinical factors known to be associated with those outcomes.

Herein, we report that the stibenium ion [(CDC)Sb][NTf] (1) (CDC=bis-pyridyl carbodicarbene; NTf=bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide) reacts with acetonitrile in the presence of the base 2,6-di-tert-butylpyridine to enable C(sp)-H bond breaking to generate the stiba-methylene nitrile complex [(CDC)Sb(CHCN)][NTf] (2). Kinetic analyses were performed to elucidate the rate dependence for all the substrates involved in the reaction.

People exhibit marked individual variation in their ability to exercise cognitive control in affectively charged situations. Affective control is typically assessed in laboratory settings by comparing performance in carefully constructed executive tasks performed in both affectively neutral and affectively charged contexts. There is some evidence that affective control undergoes significant improvement throughout adolescence, though it is unclear how adolescents deemed at risk of developing depression exercise affective control despite poor affective control being identified as a contributing factor to ongoing mental ill health in adulthood.

Fe(II) carboxylates react with dioxygen and carboxylic acid to form Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) (X = acetate or pivalate), which is an active oxidant for Rh-catalyzed arene alkenylation. Heating (150-200 °C) the catalyst precursor [(η-CH)Rh(μ-OAc)] with ethylene, benzene, Fe(II) carboxylate, and dioxygen yields styrene >30-fold faster than the reaction with dioxygen in the absence of the Fe(II) carboxylate additive. It is also demonstrated that Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) is an active oxidant under anaerobic conditions, and the reduced material can be reoxidized to Fe(μ-OH)(μ-O)(μ-X)(HX) by dioxygen.

The hospice-in-place program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is available to patients and families who elect for hospice benefits and are too unstable to be transported for hospice care. The goal of this study was to assess the satisfaction of family members of patients who died while hospitalized at VUMC and received hospice-in-place compared to the families of patients who did not receive hospice care. Next-of-kin satisfaction was measured through the administration of qualitative interviews and quantitative questionnaires.

We combine experimental and computational investigations to compare and understand catalytic arene alkenylation using the Pd(II) and Rh(I) precursors Pd(OAc) and [(η-CH)Rh(μ-OAc)] with arene, olefin, and Cu(II) carboxylate at elevated temperatures (>120 °C). Under specific conditions, previous computational and experimental efforts have identified heterotrimetallic cyclic PdCu(η-CH)(μ-OPiv) and [(η-CH)Rh(μ-OPiv)](μ-Cu) (OPiv = pivalate) species as likely active catalysts for these processes. Further studies of catalyst speciation suggest a complicated equilibrium between Cu(II)-containing complexes containing one Rh or Pd atom with complexes containing two Rh or Pd atoms.

Early adolescence is characterized by rapid changes in executive function and increased vulnerability to internalizing difficulties. The aim of this study was to explore whether internalizing symptoms are stable across early adolescence and to identify possible links with executive function. Using data from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development Study (ABCD), we identified four dimensions of internalizing symptoms from item-level ratings on the Child Behavior Checklist at ages 10 ( = 10,841) and 12 ( = 5,846), with an invariant factor structure across time.
