Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether distractions during simulated neonatal resuscitation impact mask leakage and visual gaze patterns during positive pressure ventilation (PPV) of a newborn manikin.

Study Design: In this observational, simulation-based study, medical students and paediatric residents managed a neonate requiring resuscitation alongside a standardised team and executed PPV on a leak-free manikin. The scenario incorporated distractions such as chest compressions, preparation and insertion of an umbilical vein catheter, administering fluids and interpreting venous blood gas.

Importance: High emergency department (ED) pediatric readiness is associated with improved survival among children receiving emergency care, but state and national costs to reach high ED readiness and the resulting number of lives that may be saved are unknown.

Objective: To estimate the state and national annual costs of raising all EDs to high pediatric readiness and the resulting number of pediatric lives that may be saved each year.

Objectives: Few studies have described the current clinical practices, adherence to guidelines, and outcomes of newborn resuscitations attended by emergency medical services (EMS). SimBox, a novel, video-augmented simulation, was used to describe the adherence of prehospital providers to Neonatal Resuscitation Program guidelines, to measure satisfaction with the simulation intervention, and to describe the self-reported improvement in knowledge, skills, and attitudes after the simulation.

Objective: We hypothesized that collaborative intervention to improve weighted pediatric readiness score (WPRS) will be associated with decreased pediatric intensive care (PICU) mortality, PICU and hospital length of stay.

Methods: This study analyzes the transfer of acutely ill and injured patients from general emergency departments (GEDs) to our institution. The intervention involved customized assessment reports focusing on team performance and systems improvement for pediatric readiness, sharing best practices and clinical resources, designation of a nurse pediatric emergency care coordinator (PECC) at each GED and ongoing interactions at 2 and 4 months.

Background: Regionalization of pediatric care in the United States was developed to improve care by directing patients to hospitals with optimal pediatric resources and experience, leading to less pediatric-trained providers in medically underserved areas. Children with emergencies, however, continue to present to local general emergency departments (GEDs), where pediatric emergencies are low-frequency, high-risk events.

Objective: The goals of this project were to: increase exposure of GEDs in the southeast United States to pediatric emergencies through simulation, assess pediatric emergency clinical care processes with simulation, describe factors associated with readiness including volume of pediatric patients and ED location (urban/rural), and compare these findings to the 2013 National Pediatric Readiness Project.
