Background: The patterns of optic atrophy due to retrograde transsynaptic degeneration (RTSD) have not been well characterized in children. This study aimed to characterize optic atrophy in pediatric patients with focal intracerebral lesions.
Methods: A retrospective review of children with optic atrophy and focal intracerebral lesions was conducted.
Since eyedrops have conventionally been formulated in aqueous vehicles, ocular pharmacokinetic studies are generally performed using aqueous buffers to identify physicochemical properties of the drug and the vehicles that influence drug absorption. In recent years, biocompatible lipophilic vehicles are increasingly finding application in ocular drug delivery; however, the mechanism of drug penetration from these non-aqueous vehicles is poorly understood. This study aims to compare ocular penetration of the model lipophilic drug curcumin when incorporated into lipophilic vehicles.

Therapies targeting the blocking of the hemichannels to prevent the pathological release or uptake of ions and signalling molecules through its pores are of therapeutic interest. To date, there is no close-to-native, high-definition documentation of the impact of Cx43 hemichannel-mediated inflammation on cellular ultrastructure, neither is there a robust account of the ultrastructural changes that occur following treatment with selective Cx43 hemichannel blockers such as Xentry-Gap19 (XG19).

This study aimed to develop a non-invasive diagnostic test for CI based upon retinal thickness measurements explored in a mouse model. Discrimination indices and retinal layer thickness of healthy C57BL/6J mice were quantified through a novel object recognition test (NORT) and ocular coherence tomography (OCT), respectively.

Neuronal death, inflammation, vascular disruption, and microglial activation are among many of the pathological changes that can occur during ageing. Furthermore, ageing individuals are at increased risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases in these organs, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

We describe a unique case of seropositive MOGAD in an obese 13-year-old boy who presented with an isolated IH, bilateral optic disc swelling and sudden-onset complete vision loss in one eye without radiological evidence of optic nerve involvement. Treatment with intravenous methylprednisolone combined with an emergency shunt fully restored vision and resolved the optic disc swelling.

A childbirth simulation tool (PREDIBIRTH software and SIM37 platform) that evaluates a 5-min magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessment performed at 37 weeks of gestation was developed to enhance the consulting obstetrician's ability to predict the optimal delivery mode. We aimed to determine the potential value of this childbirth simulation tool in facilitating the selection of an optimal delivery mode for both mother and infant.

We have analysed newly generated genome-wide data from 102 ancient individuals from Crete, the Greek mainland and the Aegean Islands, spanning from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. We found that the early farmers from Crete shared the same ancestry as other contemporaneous Neolithic Aegeans.

Retinal expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1), the key markers of retinal inflammation, connexin43 (Cx43) which is involved in upstream inflammasome regulation, as well as NLRP3 and cleaved caspase-1, the main markers of inflammasome activation, were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Vitreous interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, biomarkers of the activated inflammasome, were measured using a Luminex multiplex assay.

Improvements in risk assessment and anticipatory interventions are constantly needed; however, the birthing process is difficult to assess using simple imaging technology because the maternal bony pelvis and fetal skeleton interfere with visualizing the soft tissues. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive technique with no ionizing radiation that can monitor the biomechanics of the birthing process.

Polymers and their composites which were prepared from chemical monomer sources turned out to be potentially harmful to the environment due to their tedious degradation process. Biopolymers are natural substitutes for synthetic polymers which can be efficiently extricated from natural sources.

The Corona viruses (CoV) were known to be transmitted in mammals. Early this year, SARS-CoV-2, a novel strain of corona virus, was identified as the causative pathogen of an outbreak of viral pneumonia in Wuhan, China.

Although frequently presented as a case of drug vigilantism, we seek move beyond this stereotype by providing a granular account of the historical, political, and cultural conditions that lay the ground for the movement's emergence. Pat Jasan arose in the context of intersecting crises linked to protracted armed violence, extractive development and the 'slow violence' associated with widespread drug use.

It will outline the different everyday justice systems available in the Myanmar borderlands to communities who are seeking to push forward a 'solutions focused' agenda to manage drug-related social problems. They have at their disposal a range of statutory, customary, and quasi-statutory-customary legal processes and instruments.

It has since been heavily criticized for its methods and opposition to harm reduction initiatives. The purpose of this paper is to understand better the cultural and psychological response to worsening drug issues that underpin the rise of Pat Jasan as a mass social movement.

A total of 27 pregnant women were examined with 3D MRI sequences before going into labor using a 1 Tesla open field MRI. Seven of these patients subsequently had another set of 3D MRI sequences during the second stage of labor.

Materials And Methods: Seven pregnant women underwent 3-D MRI sequences using a Philips 1 T Panorama open MRI during the pre-labor period and during the second stage of labor. A 3-D vector reconstruction platform (BABYPROGRESS, France) enabled the transformation of volumes of 2-D images into finite element meshes.
The main aim of this current work is to extract pectin from waste heads of Helianthus annus by ultrasound and optimize the process variables (ultrasound power (USP), pH, time of sonication (TS) and ratio of solid to liquid (RSL) on maximal recovery of pectin using central composite statistical experimental design. In addition to that, extracted pectin at optimal condition was characterized and compared with commercial pectin. The optimal extraction process condition was USP of 375w, pH of 3.

The Late Bronze of the Eastern Mediterranean (1550-1150 BCE) was a period of strong commercial relations and great prosperity, which ended in collapse and migration of groups to the Levant. Here we aim at studying the translocation of cattle and pigs during this period. We sequenced the first ancient mitochondrial and Y chromosome DNA of cattle from Greece and Israel and compared the results with morphometric analysis of the metacarpal in cattle.
