Factors associated with 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Introduction: Lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels have been observed in cirrhotic patients and have been related to disease severity. However, most previous studies included patients with very advanced disease, lacking an adequate control for other variables that could interfere with vitamin D levels. We sought to investigate the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D and the factors related to its occurrence.

Identification of risk groups for oropharyngeal dysphagia in hospitalized patients in a university hospital.

Purpose: To identify risk groups for oropharyngeal dysphagia in hospitalized patients in a university hospital.

Methods: The study was design as an exploratory cross-sectional with quantitative data analysis. The researched population consisted of 32 patients admitted to the medical clinic at the university hospital.

[Body mass index increase after the age of 20 and associations with risk or protection factors for chronic non-communicable diseases].

Objective: To examine sociodemographic risk or protection factors for chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) that may be associated with increase in body mass index (BMI) after the age of 20.

Methods: Cross-sectional analysis based on data from 769 women and 572 men who participated in the 2005 Surveillance System for Risk factors for CNCDs, Florianópolis, Brazil. BMI increase was defined in percentage as the difference between BMI in 2005 and at age 20.
