Change in eating habits in early breast cancer (EBC) patients during chemotherapy has been poorly studied in the literature. The primary aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate food preferences and weight change in EBC patients before and after adjuvant chemotherapy. From April 2014 to June 2018, 205 EBC patients underwent a dietary assessment according to the following timeline: baseline evaluation (one week before starting chemotherapy, T0); first follow-up (approximately 2-3 months after starting chemotherapy, T1); final follow-up (one week after chemotherapy end, T2).

Aim: This prospective study was designed to confirm the efficacy and tolerability of the device, to explore potential factors associated with its efficacy and to collect data on patient perceptions and satisfaction.
Methods: Between January 2016 and June 2018, 163 early breast cancer patients eligible for adjuvant chemotherapy were enrolled.
Purpose: Eribulin mesylate (EM) is a non-taxane microtubule inhibitor approved for use in patients with metastatic breast cancer. With this pooled analysis of retrospective studies, we evaluated the efficacy and toxicity profile of EM in older patients with breast cancer in the real-world setting.
Methods: We performed a systematic database search for studies published up to March 2019 and reporting outcome and adverse events with EM in older patients (≥70 years).
Importance: Aromatase inhibitors induce a profound depletion in serum estrogen levels. Postmenopausal obese women receiving aromatase inhibitor therapy may be at increased risk of bone fractures owing to the detrimental association of adiposity with bone quality and the loss of the protective effect of estrogens on bone mineral density.
Objective: To determine whether fat body mass (FBM), as measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, is associated with vertebral fracture prevalence in postmenopausal women undergoing adjuvant aromatase inhibitor therapy for breast cancer.
Introduction: Recently the combination of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor everolimus and the aromatase inhibitor exemestane has been shown to double the progression-free survival rate in advanced breast cancer. However, the effect of the interrelated pathways of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and mTOR signaling, both of which are associated with a more aggressive breast cancer phenotype and endocrine resistance, on response in the neoadjuvant setting is unknown. We, therefore, have investigated the influence of these pathways with the aim of better defining those patients most likely to benefit from an endocrine-based therapy associated with/without mTOR inhibitors.

Breast cancer represents a heterogeneous group of diseases with varied biological features, behavior, and response to therapy; thus, management of breast cancer relies on the availability of robust predictive and prognostic factors to support therapy decision-making. Traditionally, neoadjuvant treatment for breast cancer was preserved for locally advanced, converting an inoperable to a surgical resectable cancer. Neoadjuvant trials, additionally, offer: 1) the opportunity to evaluate new treatment options in a faster way and with fewer patients than large adjuvant trials; 2) to identify and validate the prognostic and predictive value of a marker with its association with clinical outcome in relation to the administered treatment.

Background: The management of advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer is increasingly based on diagnostic and predictive analyses performed mostly on limited amounts of tumor tissue. The evaluation of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) mutations have emerged as the strongest predictor of response to EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors mainly in patients with adenocarcinoma. Several EGFR mutation detection techniques are available, having both sensitivity and specificity issues, being the Sanger sequencing technique the reference standard, with the limitation of a relatively high amount of mutated cells needed for the analysis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThere are several advantages of administering primary systemic therapy (PST) instead of adjuvant therapy in the management of early breast cancer patients: (a) PST allows for a quantifiable evaluation of the sensitivity or resistance of any treated case and (b) the response assessment offers the opportunity to "cross over" to a different regimen for an individual patient, leading to more flexible, "tailored" therapies. Indeed, these advantages are tenable if one assumes that the primary tumor response serves as a surrogate marker of the efficacy of PST in terms of survival. Unfortunately, this has not yet been validated.
