Background: Lung cancer screening recommendations employ annual frequency for eligible individuals, despite evidence that it may not be universally optimal. The impact of imposing a structure on the screening frequency remains unknown. The ENGAGE framework, a validated framework that offers fully dynamic, analytically optimal, personalised lung cancer screening recommendations, could be used to assess the impact of screening structure on the effectiveness and efficiency of lung cancer screening.

Introduction: Despite significant successes, immune checkpoint blockade fails to achieve clinical responses in a significant proportion of patients, predictive markers for responses are imperfect and immune-related adverse events (irAEs) are unpredictable. We used T-cell receptor (TCR) sequencing to systematically analyze prospectively collected patient blood samples from a randomized clinical trial of dual immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy to evaluate changes in the T-cell repertoire and their association with response and irAEs.

Methods: Patients with immunotherapy-naïve metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were treated with ipilimumab and nivolumab according to trial protocol (LONESTAR, NCT03391869).

Background And Objectives: Randomized clinical trials have shown that sub-lobar resection for clinical stage (cStage) IA non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is non-inferior to lobar resection. We evaluated traditional and conditional survival differences between lobectomy, wedge resection, and segmentectomy in patients with cStage IA NSCLC.

Methods: The National Cancer Database (2004-2019) was queried for patients with cStage IA (≤ 2 cm) NSCLC who underwent upfront lobectomy, segmentectomy, or wedge resection.

Objectives: Women in our modern era are facing considerable challenges in the workplace, particularly in Cardiothoracic Surgery where women are under-represented in leadership and academic roles. Returning to work after parental leave may potentially uncover or exacerbate existing gender biases within the workplace, with important consequences on professional and personal lives. Our goal was to characterize the experiences and the impact of return-to-work after parenting on Thoracic Surgery careers across Europe.

Background: Cardiothoracic surgery lacks gender and racial/ethnic diversity. Recent studies have highlighted disparities based on gender and race/ethnicity among academic cardiothoracic surgeons. The impact of the intersection of these factors on representation and salary is unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the feasibility and safety of active surveillance for patients with multiple ground glass opacities (GGOs) in the lungs, which are a common concern in medical imaging.
  • A total of 337 patients, primarily older adults with a significant history of smoking, were enrolled and monitored over time, with each GGO documented via CT scans every 6 to 12 months.
  • Preliminary findings suggest that active surveillance is a viable management option for patients, with ongoing assessments planned to evaluate long-term safety and outcomes over five years.
