Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify diagnostic biomarkers for postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) using transcriptome analysis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients.
  • Researchers utilized various bioinformatics tools, including differential gene expression analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), to discover a set of 15 genes that form a diagnostic signature correlated with bone mineral density (BMD).
  • The findings suggest that this diagnostic signature could aid in predicting PMOP risk and inform clinical decisions and drug candidate selection for treatment.

Neonicotinoids (NEOs) are extensively applied in global agricultural production for pest control but have adverse effects on human health. In this study, the concentrations of six NEOs and three characteristic metabolites were investigated by collecting 200 serum samples from an elderly population in China. Results showed that the NEOs and their metabolites were widely detected (89%-98 %) in the serum samples from the osteoporosis (OP) (n = 120) and non-OP (n = 80) population, and their median concentrations ranged from 0.
