[Effect of total flavonoids of Hippophae rhamnoides L. on the expression of MCP-1 in aorta of spontaneously hypertensive rats].

Objective: To study the effects of total flavonoids of Hippophae rhamnoides L. (TFH) on the expression of monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP-1) in aorta of Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats (SHR) and to study the relationship of expression of MCP-1 in aorta and intimal medial thickness (IMT) of aorta.

Methods: Twelve-week-old male SHR (n=12) were randomly devided into three groups to receive TFH [30 mg/(kg x d), n=4], Enalapril [10 mg/(kg x d), n= 4] and Hydrochlorothiazide [25 mg/(kg x d), n=4] for 12 weeks, respectively.

[An epidemiologic investigation of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease among students aged 5-18 in west area of Sichuan Province].

Objective: To study the incidence of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and its epidemiologic features and the prevalence rate of rheumatic heart disease in west area of Sichuan province.

Methods: By using disease surveillance program, an epidemiologic investigation of ARF was performed from June 1992 to June 1995 and an annual screening survey was carried out among 46,595 students aged 5-18 in 1993 and 1994.

Results: The annual incidence of ARF was 12.

[The effects of non-pharmacotherapy in decreasing the levels of serum lipid in patients with hyperlipidemia].

Objective: To develop a non-pharmacotherapy program for patients with hyperlipidemia and assess its effectiveness.

Methods: A cluster control trial was used. The experimental group was given non-pharmacotherapy for hyperlipidemia once a week for 6 weeks; the content of non-pharmacotherapy included the basic knowledge about hyperlipidemia, a guide of changing unhealthy diet and life-style.
