Background: Metabolic disorders in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients have attracted increasing attention, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in particular has been the focus of much research due to its high incidence and potential harm in patients with PCOS. However, little is known about whether PCOS is associated with more severe NAFLD histopathology. Although Jiawei Qi Gong Wan (JQGW) is widely used clinically, its specific effects and mechanisms on the liver remain unclear.

Summary Answer: Among women with PCOS and IR, acupuncture was not more effective than metformin or sham acupuncture in improving insulin sensitivity.
What Is Known Already: Uncontrolled trials have shown that acupuncture improved insulin sensitivity with fewer side effects compared with metformin in women with PCOS and IR. However, data from randomized trials between acupuncture and metformin or sham acupuncture are lacking.
Purpose: The risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is inconsistent in some studies. The aim of this meta-analysis was to examine the evidence regarding the strength of the association between PCOS and HDP.
Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched to identify observational studies investigating HDP in patients with PCOS.
Targeted proteomics has advantages over earlier conventional technologies for protein detection. We developed and validated an LC/MRM-MS-based targeted proteomic method combined with immunoaffinity precipitation for the enrichment and detection of low abundance chemerin isoforms in human biofluids. After tryptic digestion, each chemerin isoform was characterized by isoform-specific peptides, and the absolute quantification was achieved by using stable isotope-labeled peptides as internal standards.

Acupuncture, one form of TCM, requires the selection of appropriate acupoints and needling techniques, but many clinical trials on acupuncture have used fixed acupuncture protocols without accounting for individual patient differences. We have designed a multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate whether personalized or fixed acupuncture increases the likelihood of live births in infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared with letrozole or placebo letrozole.

Methods: Total RNA was isolated from granulosa cells of 15 women with PCOS and 15 body mass index- and age-matched healthy women (control). RNA sequencing was conducted on ribosomal-depleted RNA for circRNA expression profiling.
The roles of sphingolipids in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are still unknown. This study aimed to investigate the sphingolipid characteristics for different types of PCOS using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). A total of 107 women with PCOS and 37 healthy women as normal controls were studied.

Methods: One hundred and twenty-five female SD rats were randomly divided into normal control, PCOS model, medication (CC), EA and EA+CC groups (=25 in each group, 15 for checking blastocyst implantation, and 10 for Western blot). The PCOS model was established by subcutaneous injection of Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and fed with high-fat diet.
Background: Our prospective pilot study of acupuncture affecting insulin sensitivity on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) combined with insulin resistance (IR) showed that acupuncture had a significant effect on improving the insulin sensitivity of PCOS. But there is still no randomized controlled trial to determine the effect of acupuncture on the insulin sensitivity in women with PCOS and IR. In this article, we present the protocol of a randomized controlled trial to compare the effect of true acupuncture on the insulin sensitivity of these patients compared with metformin and sham acupuncture.

The aim of the study is to investigate the molecular mechanism behind androgen reduction in porcine granulosa cells (pGCs) with Bunge extract cryptotanshinone. PGCs were isolated from porcine ovaries and identified. Androgen excess model of the pGCs was induced with the MAPK inhibitor PD98059 and then treated with cryptotanshinone.

We hypothesise that electroacupuncture pretreatment improves insulin sensitivity and leads to a higher ovulation rate and greater chances of live birth after the induction of ovulation. The effect of electroacupuncture pretreatment followed by ovulation induction in women with anovulatory PCOS has not been investigated before, and we present here a randomised controlled trial to test this hypothesis by comparing electroacupuncture pretreatment followed by letrozole versus letrozole alone in anovulatory women with PCOS.

Objective To observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on gene expressions of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) and insulin receptor substrate 2 (IRS2) in the endometrium and insulin sensitivity (IS) of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) rats, thereby providing basic evidence of clinical ap- plication of EA for improving the pregnancy rate of PCOS patients and reducing the abortion rate. Methods Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) was subcutaneously injected to 24-day-old female SD rats to induce P- COS model. Besides, rats were fed with high-fat diet.

Methods: Porcine granulose cells were isolated and cultured. They were inoculated by MAPK inhibitor PD98059 at different concentrations, and then they were divided into the blank control group (0), 1, 3, 10, and 25 micromol/L groups.
Objective: To observe the effect of low-frequency electroacupuncture (EA) treatment on oxidative stress and metabolism disorder in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) rats, so as to study its underlying mechanisms in improving PCOS.
Methods: Thirty female SD rats were randomized into control group, model group and EA group (n = 10 in each group). The PCOS model was established by subcutaneous injection of testosterone propionate (1 mg/100 g, 10 mg/mL) for 8 weeks.
Objective: To assess the effectiveness of abdominal acupuncture at the endocrine and metabolic level in patients with obesity-type polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Methods: Eighty-six women from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College with a diagnosis of PCOS (body-mass index [BMI] ≥25 kg/m(2)) were randomly assigned to receive 6 months of abdominal acupuncture (once a day) or oral metformin (250 mg three times daily in the first week, followed by 500 mg three times daily thereafter). BMI, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), ovarian volume, menstrual frequency, homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and Ferriman-Gallwey score were measured at the beginning of the study and after 6 months of treatment.
