The prevalence of microplastics in marine environments is recognized for its ecotoxicological risks as vectors for hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs). This study explored the role of microalgae as vectors in the transfer of Phenanthrene (Phe) from contaminated microplastics to marine filter feeders. Employing a spatial exposure system, the sorption of Phe onto polyethylene (PE) particles, its desorption mediated by microalgae into microalgal suspensions, and subsequent accumulation in the tissues of filter feeders were investigated.

Current neoantigen cancer vaccines activate T cell immunity through dendritic cell/macrophage-mediated antigen presentation. It is unclear whether incorporating B cell-mediated antigen presentation into current neoantigen vaccines could enhance CD4/CD8 T cell immunity to improve their anticancer efficacy. We developed SARS-CoV-2 B cell epitope-guided neoantigen peptide/mRNA cancer nanovaccines (BTVax) to improve anticancer efficacy by enhancing tumor-specific CD4/CD8 T cell antitumor immunity through B cell-mediated antigen presentation.

Background: Cardiac hypertrophy is characterized by the upregulation of fetal genes, increased protein synthesis, and enlargement of cardiac myocytes. The mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), which responds to fluctuations in cellular nutrient and energy levels, plays a pivotal role in regulating protein synthesis and cellular growth. While attempts to inhibit mTORC1 activity, such as through the application of rapamycin and its analogs, have demonstrated limited efficacy, further investigation is warranted.

Cells routinely utilize the unfolded protein response (UPR) to alleviate endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress or trigger about apoptotic death under extreme ER-stress conditions. Tumor cells are subjected to persistent ER-stress due to their crowded microenvironment, but can maintain hyperactive proliferation under most stressful conditions. Therefore, understanding strategies employed by cancer cells to escape from UPR-related apoptosis has important medical implications.

In recent years, microplastics have been of great concern in environmental and health research. In field surgeries and laboratory investigations, research interests were focused on the retention of microplastics inside of animals by ingestion and the series of negative effects after that. However, such large plastic debris and filaments are hardly eaten by small animals, like zooplankton, planktonic larvae, etc.

Article Synopsis
  • Deep-learning techniques are becoming popular in ghost imaging (GI) because they help create high-quality images even with limited data sampling.
  • Current methods focus on pixel accuracy and direct mapping, often missing out on the variety in image reconstructions.
  • The new method called DDPMGI uses a probabilistic model to improve both the quality and diversity of reconstructions, achieving better performance than existing methods, and showing promise for color image applications.
