Elderly patients with multiple concomitant chronic diseases are the particularly vulnerable during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, which accounts for a large number of COVID-19-related deaths. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) on in-hospital mortality in a secondary hospital in China. A cross-sectional, retrospective study was conducted using electronic medical data collected from Shanghai Gonghui Hospital from April 2022 to June 2022.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most aggressive cancers and is highly prevalent in China, exhibiting resistance to current treatments. ΔNP63α, the main isoform of p63, is frequently amplified in ESCC and contributes to therapeutic resistance, although the molecular mechanisms remain unknown. Here, we report that ΔNP63α is highly expressed in ESCC and is associated with radioresistance by reducing ROS level.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine whether apical patency increases postoperative pain after endodontic therapy. This study explored the degree and incidence of postoperative pain during root canal therapy, as well as the number of required analgesic doses. We searched PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and gray literature from the date of database inception until May 2023.

We theoretically study the difference-sideband generation in a double-cavity optomechanical system with nonreciprocal coupling. Beyond the conventional linearized description of optomechanical interactions, we derive analytical expressions for the efficiency of difference-sideband generation by using a perturbation method. Here we investigate bistable behaviors of the system and show the difference-sideband generation modulated by the nonreciprocal coupling strength between the two cavities.

Article Synopsis
  • * Patients carrying the c.415C>T variant can tolerate lower doses of 6-MP — dose intensity is 49% less for homozygous (TT) and 15% less for heterozygous (CT) carriers compared to wild-type (CC) patients.
  • * Despite the increased risk of myelosuppression, the NUDT15 c.415C>T variant did not

Introduction: Esophagogastric junction (EGJ) carcinomas develop in the transition zone between the esophagus and stomach. The incidence of EGJ carcinoma has steadily increased over the past few decades. Most patients are first diagnosed at an advanced stage, which renders them ineligible for surgery.

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and survival risk factors in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients with preexisting type 2 diabetes mellitus (preDM).

Patients And Methods: All patients with SCLC admitted to our hospital between January 2013 and August 2018 were followed up until August 2020 and retrospectively analyzed. Clinical characteristics of SCLC patients with and without preDM were extracted.

Article Synopsis
  • Pulmonary carcinosarcoma (PC) is a rare and aggressive form of non-small cell lung cancer that typically doesn’t respond well to conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in a poor prognosis.
  • A case study was conducted on an 88-year-old patient with PC that was deemed inoperable and had a prior history of cerebral infarction.
  • The patient was treated with a combination of anlotinib (a targeted therapy) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), showing a sustained positive response for 10 months, suggesting this combo could be a promising option for older patients with PC.

EML4-ALK rearrangement is common in lung adenocarcinoma. The ALK inhibitors remarkably inhibit lung adenocarcinoma and reveal long-term beneficial effects in several patients. Advanced genetic testing technology reveals that EML4-ALK rearrangement has been observed in patients with lung squamous cell carcinoma.

Objective: To develop the first value assessment index system for off-label use of antineoplastic agents in China.

Methods: A modified two-round Delphi method was employed to establish consensus within a field to reach agreement a questionnaire or doing interview among a multidisciplinary panel of experts by collecting their feedback to inform the next round, exchanging their individual knowledge, experience, and opinions anonymously, and resolving uncertainties.

Results: Expert's positive coefficient was 94.

This paper is aimed to study the bioavailability and bioequivalence of Cyclosporin Soft Capsules (test preparation and reference preparation) in Chinese healthy volunteers. A high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) method for determining the concentration of Cyclosporin A in human whole blood was developed and methodological validated. In accordance with the randomized two-period self crossover study, 24 volunteers received a single oral dose of 400 mg of test preparation or reference preparation.

Objective: To compare the transfection efficiency of two kind of recombinant adeno-associated virus-mediated transfection to rats osteoblasts with enhanced green fluorescent protein and assess the feasibility of it as a vector for gene therapy of osteoblast lesions.

Methods: The osteoblasts of rats were isolated, cultured and identified with type I collagen staged digestion method. According to different multiplicity of infection (MOI) (MOI = 1 x 10(3), 1 x 10(4), 1 X 10(4), 5 x 10(5)), rAAV-EGFP was transfected into osteoblasts with rAAV only and rAAV-ADV co-transfection respectively.
