Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is believed to follow a waxing and waning course, often according to environmental stressors. During the COVID-19 pandemic, pre-existing OCD symptoms were reported to increase and to change from checking to washing behaviors, while new-onset symptoms were predominantly of the hoarding type. In the present study, we followed the evolution of OCD symptoms, anxiety, depression, and insights of illness in forty-six OCD patients throughout the pandemic.

An innovative mobile lidar device, developed to monitor volcanic plumes during explosive eruptions at Mt. Etna (Italy) and to analyse the optical properties of volcanic particles, was upgraded in October 2023 with the aim of improving volcanic plume retrievals. The new configuration of the lidar allows it to obtain new data on both the optical and the microphysical properties of the atmospheric aerosol.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the clinical and functional outcomes associated with the direct anterior approach (DAA) compared to other surgical approaches used for HHA.

Methods: Studies evaluating HHA-treated FNFs using the DAA were compared through meta-analysis to all other surgical approaches combined and as distinct subgroups.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the associated restrictions caused great psychological suffering to the general population and psychiatric patients. We aimed to explore the course of depression and anxiety symptoms in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) patients, adjustment disorder (AD) patients, and participants without psychiatric disorders (control group, CG) across the different phases of the pandemic: the first lockdown, a temporary interruption of restrictions, and the second lockdown. Out of the 158 patients screened, we enrolled 46 OCD and 19 AD patients as well as 29 CG participants.

We present here the findings of a 10-year follow-up study involving children with severe migraine pain admitted to our emergency department. [Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator explosion after gunshot: when the device protects not only from arrhythmic death].

A 70-year-old man presented to the emergency department with accidental gunshot wound at left hemithorax and left shoulder/arm. Initial clinical assessment showed stable vital signs and an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) protruding outside from large wound in the infraclavicular region. The ICD, previously implanted for secondary prevention of ventricular tachycardia, appeared burned and the battery was exploded.

Aims: A previous randomized study demonstrated that the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD) was noninferior to transvenous ICD with respect to device-related complications and inappropriate shocks. Original research articles fulfilling the following criteria were included: (i) patients 18 years and older; (ii) all etiologies of amputation; (iii) any level of amputation; (iv) use of immersive VR as a treatment modality for PLP; (v) self-reported objective measures of PLP before and after at least one VR session; (vi) written in English.
