Background: Despite the evidence that Lactoferrin (Lf) is involved in allergic asthma processes, it is unknown whether neutrophils can be one of the main cellular sources of this key inflammatory mediator directly in response of an IgE mediated stimulus. The present study was undertaken to analyze this question.

Methods: Neutrophils from healthy subjects (n = 34) and neutrophils from allergic asthmatic patients (n = 102) were challenged in vitro with specific allergens to which the patients were sensitized, PAF, or agonist mAbs against IgE-receptors, and the levels of Lf were measured in the culture supernatant.

Taste aversion learning (TAL) is a type of learning characterized by rejection of a gustatory/flavor stimulus as a consequence of its pairing with visceral discomfort and malaise. TAL can be established in the laboratory by two different behavioral procedures, concurrent or sequential. Neural mechanisms of these learning modalities remain to be elucidated, but several studies have discussed the implication of various anatomical structures, including the vagus nerve.

The diagnosis of congenital anomalies of the urogenital tract in the adult is uncommon. Complete ureteral duplication represents a congenital anomaly of the ureters, usually draining a duplex kidney, with a second orifice entering the bladder, urethra or other structures. In the majority of cases, this pathology is completely asymptomatic; sometimes it's diagnosed because of complications such as infections, hydronephrosis, lithiasis, or in the evaluation of the urinary tract.
