Article Synopsis
  • - Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common genetic condition that leads to early heart disease, but diagnosing it early is challenging due to a lack of effective national screening methods.
  • - A study in Huelva aimed to assess the effectiveness of centralized lab screenings for FH by examining blood tests and sending high cholesterol results to a specialized Lipid Unit, where patients underwent further evaluation.
  • - Out of over 37,000 tests, 846 patients were evaluated, with a notable prevalence of FH found (1.74% possible cases and 0.51% definite cases), suggesting that targeted screening strategies could significantly improve FH diagnosis rates.
