Introduction: Up to 22% of pediatric patients with testicular torsion (TT) present initially with lower abdominal pain, which progresses to scrotal pain over time. Misdiagnosis can lead to testicular loss. This study examines the frequency of this presentation in adults and its clinical implications.

3D models have been introduced as tools to improve surgeon's precision during Robotic-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN). They showed to provide accurate anatomical details, improve operative time and patient safety by reducing complications. Over the last years, several useful models have been developed and proposed.

Coeliac disease is an immune-mediated chronic enteropathy, with a prevalence of around 1% in the general population and occurring in genetically susceptible individuals after the ingestion of gluten proteins present in wheat, rye and barley. Currently, a strict lifelong gluten-free diet is the cornerstone of treatment of coeliac disease. However, maintaining strict dietary adherence is challenging for many patients, due to the high costs, the highly restrictive nature of the diet and the impact on patients' quality of life.

Introduction: Although failures are undesirable, they offer valuable learning opportunities that drive progress through necessary changes. This concept holds particularly true in the history of urethral reconstruction.

Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted using PubMed, focusing on the history of the urethral stricture and current trends based on national and international guidelines for urethral stricture management.

Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common urological disease that is strongly associated with the aging process and can lead to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). LUTS due to BPH can significantly affect the quality of life of many patients. Among the treatments available for BPH to improve symptoms and functional outcomes, drug therapy and surgical therapy are the options of choice.

Introduction: Anterior urethroplasty is the gold standard for treating complex urethral strictures, primarily focusing on restoring urinary function. However, aesthetic complications, including penile curvature, scarring, and meatal deformities, can impact patient satisfaction, self-image, and quality of life. Despite their significance, cosmetic outcomes are underreported in the literature, affecting patient counseling and surgical planning.

Objective: The aim of this systematic review is to offer a comprehensive view of the current use of robotic surgery for the treatment of urethral strictures and bladder neck contractures.

Methods: A systematic review of the current literature was conducted through the Medline and NCBI PubMed, Embase databases in December 2023. Keywords used were "robotic" and "robotic-assisted" combined with "urethroplasty", "urethral stricture", and "bladder neck contracture".

Introduction: Oral mucosal grafts are essential in reconstructive urology, particularly for urethral and genital defects. Advances in harvesting and implantation techniques have been made, yet perioperative care remains crucial for optimal outcomes. This systematic review explores postoperative care pathways following oral mucosal graft harvesting to consolidate knowledge, identify best practices, and highlight research gaps.

Introduction: Neo-urethral stricture formation frequently occurs after phalloplasty and most commonly affects the anastomosis between the fixed and phallic part of the neo-urethra. This narrative review gives an overview of the existing literature on how to treat these particular strictures.

Methods: This narrative review is based on a literature search conducted in June 2024.

Introduction: The goal of hypospadias repair is to optimize urinary and sexual function, improve cosmesis and minimise the psychosocial effects associated with a penile anomaly. However, a lack of clarity exists regarding the role of surgery in milder hypospadias where the anomaly is inconspicuous and there is no anticipated impact on function. The aim of this study was to review the long term functional, cosmetic and psychosocial outcomes in men with uncorrected hypospadias.

Bladder pain Syndrome presents a multifaceted challenge in contemporary urological practice, marked by LUTS, negative behavioural, sexual, or emotional experiences, and the potential for sexual dysfunction. We meticulously explored the existing literature of conservative, non-invasive and invasive interventions, aiming to provide clinicians with a nuanced understanding of available options for comprehensive BPS management. We delve into the effectiveness and safety profiles from behavioural approaches through lifestyle changes and physical therapy, to oral or intravesical medications, until the definitive surgical treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Adult haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are essential for creating blood and immune cells, and their function is influenced by signaling pathways like JAK/STAT, specifically through the activation of STAT5.
  • STAT5 deficiency leads to decreased ability for HSCs to self-renew and repopulate various blood lineages, as well as increased differentiation and reduced quiescence, caused by both loss of traditional pSTAT5 signaling and distinct roles played by unphosphorylated STAT5 (uSTAT5).
  • The study suggests that targeting the JAK1/2 pathway with inhibitors like ruxolitinib can improve HSC maintenance and reduce differentiation, potentially providing a strategy for enhancing stem cell function

  • * The study included 177 patients, showing that elevated FC levels were linked to poorer clinical responses and worse long-term outcomes, including complications and mortality.
  • * Results indicated that high FC levels are more common in complicated cases of CD and NCEs, suggesting that FC could be a useful marker for assessing disease severity and predicting future health issues.

  • Monkeypox is a viral disease caused by the Monkeypox virus, which starts in animals and can spread to humans.
  • Historically, it was mostly found in central and west Africa, but it has recently expanded to multiple regions around the world.
  • This spread has raised significant concerns for global health authorities as they work to manage and contain the virus.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study explores how neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels in urine from a nephrostomy tube can help assess renal function in patients with severe hydronephrosis due to ureteral obstruction.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 24 patients and found that higher NGAL levels were significantly correlated with lower creatinine clearance rates (Ccr) and reduced urine volume post-nephrostomy, especially in those who underwent nephrectomy.
  • - The results suggest that NGAL is a more effective predictor for determining the need for nephrectomy compared to traditional measures like Ccr and urine output, indicating a significant renal function decline shortly after the procedure.

Objectives: This study aimed to test the association between of type and number of D'Amico high-risk criteria (DHRCs) with cancer-specific mortality (CSM) in high-risk prostate cancer patients treated with radical prostatectomy.

Materials And Methods: In the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2004-2016), we identified 31,281 radical prostatectomy patients with at least 1 DHRC, namely, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) >20 ng/mL (hrPSA), biopsy Gleason Grade Group (hrGGG) score of 4 and 5, or clinical tumor stage ≥T3 (hrcT). Multivariable Cox regression models and competing risks regression models (adjusting for other cause mortality) tested the association between DHRCs and 5-year CSM.

Non-antimicrobial prophylactic options for recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs) can be personalized for each patient. A combination of different non-antibiotic strategies may provide the optimal strategy for reducing rUTIs. Management of rUTIs remains challenging for urologists and distressing for patients.

The multi-particle Arnol'd cat is a generalization of the Hamiltonian system, both classical and quantum, whose period evolution operator is the renowned map that bears its name. It is obtained following the Joos-Zeh prescription for decoherence by adding a number of scattering particles in the configuration space of the cat. Quantization follows swiftly if the Hamiltonian approach, rather than the semiclassical approach, is adopted.

Article Synopsis
  • People who get solid organ transplants often have problems with erectile dysfunction, which can be affected by their other health issues and problems with their organ.
  • This study looked at how safe it is to use penile prostheses in these patients and found that about 11% of them had complications, mostly infections and device failures.
  • Even though there are some risks, doctors can feel more confident about using these prostheses in transplant recipients since the study showed similar reoperation rates compared to non-transplanted patients.
