Introduction: In emergency rooms (ERs), 5% of patients experiencing an acute ischemic stroke (AIS) receive an alternative diagnosis; these cases are known as stroke chameleons (SC). The percentage of SC treated with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and the characteristics have not been well described. We aimed at investigating the variables associated with the probability receiving IVT.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Stroke chameleons (SC), are often diagnosed too late in their course to benefit from intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) treatment in the Emergency Room (ER). It remains unclear what proportion of this patient population would be a candidate for IVT. We sought to identify the proportion of SC patients with contraindications to IVT and to delineate what those contraindications are.

Methods: Prospective observational study of patients with ischemic stroke syndromes admitted to the emergency room (ER) of Clínica Alemana between December 2014 and October 2023.
Background: The efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is time-dependent.
Objective: To compare the door-to-needle (DTN) time of stroke neurologists (SNs) non-stroke neurologists (NSNs) and emergency room physicians (EPs). Additionally, we aimed to determine elements associated with DTN ≤ 20 minutes.
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) comprise a group of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) characterized by deficits in communication and social interaction, as well as repetitive and restrictive behaviors, etc. The genetic implications of ASD have been widely documented, and numerous genes have been associated with it. The use of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) has proven to be a rapid and effective method for detecting both small and large deletions and duplications associated with ASD.

Hospital admissions related to stroke have decreased globally during the COVID-19 pandemic, but scarce information is available regarding the effect of COVID-19 in TS. Using a population-based TS registry, we investigated the impact of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout our TS network in Santiago, Chile.

Objective: To investigate the association between diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) classification.
Methods: We included 1019 ischemic stroke patients.
Chromosome-5p minus syndrome (5p-Sd, OMIM #123450) formerly known as syndrome results from the loss of genetic material at the distal region of the short arm of chromosome 5. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder of genetic cause. So far, about 400 patients have been reported worldwide.

The objective of this study is to report the prenatal ultrasound findings in four foetuses diagnosed with 17q21.31 microdeletions (Koolen-de Vries syndrome) using chromosomal microarrays (CMA).

Aim: To describe the DNT in our center and determine those factors associated with a DNT longer than 60 min.
Background: Low-dose alteplase (LrtPA) has been shown not to be inferior to the standard-dose (SrtPA) with respect to death/disability.
Objective: We aim to evaluate the percentage of patients treated with LrtPA at our center after the ENCHANTED trial and the factors associated with the use of this dosage.
Methods: Prospective study in consecutive patients with an acute stroke admitted between June 2016 and November 2018.
Introduction: The choice of restorative materials has for a long time been determined by the tooth position. Thus, premolar restoration depended on the practitioner's clinical assessment and practical experience in regard to the material to be handled.
Aim: The objective of this study was to assess, in the students' practice, the change in the choice of materials used for premolars restoration.
Background And Purpose: Transcranial Doppler (TCD) helps identify patients with carotid dissections at risk of ischemic events (IEs). There is paucity of data identifying independent predictors of IE in vertebral arterial dissection (VAD). We sought to investigate the clinical and ultrasound predictors of IE.

Objective: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of prenatal ultrasound for detecting fetal skeletal dysplasias and to describe its role in orienting genetic studies.
Study Design: Observational study of pregnant women surveyed in our hospital, between 2011 and 2018, with fetal long bones below the 3rd centile (shortened long bones), either as an isolated finding or associated to other skeletal anomalies. We used a systematic protocol for the ultrasound evaluation and selection of those fetuses suspected of having a skeletal dysplasia.
Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is one of the leading causes of death in Chile. Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is an effective treatment. Geographical barriers and lack of specialists limit its application.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study performing ECO on consecutive patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attacks, admitted to our centre between February 2013 and May 2017.

Acute and late radiation-induced injury on skin and subcutaneous tissues are associated with substantial morbidity in radiation therapy, interventional procedures and also are of concern in the context of nuclear or radiological accidents. Pathogenesis is initiated by depletion of acutely responding epithelial tissues and damage to vascular endothelial microvessels. Efforts for medical management of severe radiation-induced lesions have been made.

Methods: Consecutive patients with CCADW, seen in Clínica Alemana de Santiago between April 2004 and January 2015, were evaluated clinically, and with TCD, microembolic signals (MES) monitoring and breath hold Index (BHI) test were performed.
Results: Forty-one patients with 45 CCADW were included.
Background: The additional information that transcranial Doppler (TCD) can provide as part of a multimodal imaging stroke protocol in the setting of hyper acute strokes has not been evaluated.
Methods: Consecutive patients admitted between December 2012 and January 2015 with ischemic stroke of less than 4.5 hours of onset were studied as soon as possible with a protocol consisting of noncontrast brain computed tomography, computed tomography angiography of supra-aortic vessels, diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging, and TCD.
