Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are non-epithelial stromal tumors that arise in the gastrointestinal tract. Pharmacological treatments for GIST are tyrosine kinase inhibitors. For metastatic disease, debulking may be helpful in reducing the tumor burden, thus increasing the effectiveness of tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
