Article Synopsis
  • Gastric cancer is a major health issue, especially in China, where many patients are diagnosed too late for surgery, leading to poor outcomes; the effectiveness of maintenance therapy post-chemotherapy is still being explored.
  • A case study of a 68-year-old man shows that after initial chemotherapy, using S-1 combined with Apatinib as maintenance treatment allowed him to live over 7 years without disease progression, though he ultimately died from a COVID-19 infection.
  • Current treatments for advanced gastric cancer are inadequate, highlighting the need for more research on the combination of S-1 and Apatinib in maintenance therapy and larger clinical trials in the future.
