The beech marten () is a small-size mustelid endangered according to the IUCN Red List. Despite the plethora of parasites potentially affecting its population decline, subcutaneous filarioids are occasionally reported in martens and their competent arthropod vectors are to date unknown. Therefore, from January 2023 to August 2024, this study investigated the presence of subcutaneous filarioids and ectoparasites of road-killed beech martens ( = 7) from southwestern Italy.

However, pulse wave reflections can impair the accuracy of local PWV measurements. We propose a method to measure pressure-dependent variations in local PWV while minimizing the influence of pulse wave reflections.

Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the presence of both pathogens in bees, pollen and honey from apiaries in Southwestern Italy.
Methods: From March to July 2022 and 2023, apiaries ( = 10) were selected and classified as High Impact Areas (HIAs, = 5) and Low Impact Areas (LIAs, = 5) according to a 5-point environmental risk index based on factors affecting bee health sand related productions.
Purpose: We set out to develop a publicly available tool that could accurately diagnose spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in exome, genome or panel sequencing datasets aligned to a GRCh37, GRCh38, or T2T reference genome.
Methods: The SMA Finder algorithm detects the most common genetic causes of SMA by evaluating reads that overlap the c.840 position of the SMN1 and SMN2 paralogs.
Background: The efficacy and safety of the ultrathin BioMime sirolimus-eluting coronary stent (SES) system in treating single or multiple native coronary lesions, in-stent restenosis, and bifurcation lesions have been evidenced at 1 year.
Aims: We sought to investigate the long-term safety and efficacy of the BioMime SES in a real-world population with obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD).
Methods: The prospective, single-arm, multicentre meriT-2 trial enrolled 250 patients from 11 sites across India.
Background: Oral Submucous Fibrosis, OSF is an inflammatory mucosal disorder prevalent in areca nut chewing belts of the world. Although various treatments are available for its management, none provide complete resolution.Curcumin, an indigenous product, improves burning sensation, mouth opening along with other clinical signs of OSF and is potentially viable therapeutic option for its management.

A 52-year-old female presented with multiple joint pain that was being treated as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but through clinical examination, she was found to have Hansen's disease with a type 2 reaction. Hence, the importance of a thorough clinical examination is a must for the timely and correct diagnosis of patients suffering from Hansen's disease.

Oral administration of sucrose or sweet-tasting solutions has shown effectiveness in reducing procedural pain in infants and neonates. This study aimed to investigate whether pre-application of sucrose solution had an effect on minimizing pain perception during injection and to assess the potential impact of the child's age and sweet preference.

This instability is driven by cathode-electrolyte side reactions, causing rapid degradation, and compromising the overall cycle life. In this study, a protective coating using dispersed "magnetite (FeO.

He was investigated and detected to be reactive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 antibodies. A lumbar puncture revealed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) VDRL to be reactive at a titer of 1:160 which led to a diagnosis of asymptomatic neurosyphilis.

Phylogenetic analysis suggests the parasite was introduced from Europe. Adopting a One Health approach is needed to limit further spread of T.

It is the second most common recessive disorder in individuals of European descent and is present in all populations. Accurate tools exist for diagnosing SMA from genome sequencing data.

Anoles are a widely distributed group of reptiles that are also increasing in popularity as a pet animal. These species have been described as paratenic and intermediate hosts for many parasites of veterinary and medical importance. However, while human and animals such as cats and dogs may often interact with anoles, little research has been conducted in terms of assessing the full potential of anoles to harbor parasites of public and veterinary health significance.

Endothelial reactivity (ER) is widely measured using flow-mediated dilation (FMD) of brachial artery. Conventional measurement of FMD is influenced by factors such as input shear stress, arterial transmural pressure, diameter and thereby arterial material properties (ε). Thus, for a reliable interpretation of FMD, it has to be normalized with respect to the above confounding factors.

Flow-mediated dilation (FMD) evaluates the relative change in arterial diameter during hyperemia to assess the endothelial response due to a shear stimulus. However, conventional FMD measures diameter response alone and the alterations in the arterial wall's material properties during reactive hyperemia, which also influence dilation, go unaddressed. In this work, we examine the material response (MR) of the artery during reactive hyperemia using clinically relevant stiffness markers for the assessment of endothelial reactivity (ER).

Arterial pulse wave separation analysis (WSA) requires simultaneously measured pressure and flow rate waveform from the same arterial site. Modelling approaches to flow rate waveforms offers a methodological and instrumentational advantage. However, current techniques are limited to the aortic site.
