Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) presents significant treatment challenges despite considerable advancements in its management. The Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL) first published its guidelines to aid healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC in 2014. These guidelines were subsequently updated in 2019.

Biliary obstruction secondary to malignancy is a common clinical problem. Rarely, biliary obstruction is due to leukemia, and obstructive jaundice in these patients usually presents late in the course of the disease. We present a rare case of a patient who presented with fever, jaundice, and pruritus with multiple nodular swellings in the left shoulder, left thigh, and lower back.

Background: In anxiety disorders, culture is important in symptom presentation and help-seeking. Most tools for anxiety disorders are not validated in India and thus might not capture culture-specific aspects of anxiety. This study aims to identify and generate culturally specific terms to describe symptoms of anxiety as part of the development of the Kannada version of the Panic and Anxiety National Indian Questionnaire (PANIQ).

Malignancy in heart transplant recipients is a grave complication. Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is the second most common tumour in adults and commonest in children. The incidence varies with the transplanted organ from 1 to 2% following kidney transplantation to as high as 10% following thoracic organ transplantation due to different immunosuppression intensity.

However, scoring systems or prognostic indicators for assessing AP are cumbersome and expensive, and have not proved accurately to predict outcomes.
Aim: We conducted a study with the aim of evaluating the predictive accuracy of C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin and ferritin regarding outcomes in patients with AP.
Aim and objectives The infection of microbial agents in cirrhosis has increased due to poor immunity, which increases morbidities and mortalities worldwide. The present study aimed to assess the incidence, the type of infections, the pattern of resistance, and the course of hospitalization among cirrhotic patients in the Eastern coastal region. Methodology The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study, and the current study was undertaken for 24 months at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Sciences, IMS, and SUM.

Burkholderia cepacia infections are common among immunocompromised patients but multiple reports have shown that it can affect immunocompetent patients also. We are reporting two patients with multiple liver and splenic abscesses caused by Burkholderia cepacia. First case is a 54-year-old diabetic male presenting with fever, abdominal pain, bilateral lower limb weakness, and incontinence of urine.

Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey was conducted among residents of an urban slum and a social welfare home in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from October 2019 to April 2021. The prevalence of HBV infection was also measured by testing the serum positivity for hepatitis B surface antigen using rapid point-of-care test kits.
Background And Aim: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a severe form of alcoholic hepatitis (SAH). We aimed to study the natural course, response to corticosteroids (CS), and the role of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of Liver (APASL) research consortium (AARC) score in determining clinical outcomes in AH patients.
Methods: Prospectively collected data from the AARC database were analyzed.
Depression is associated with hyperactivity of the hypothalamo pituitary adrenal axis. Cortisol is a steroid hormone, released from the adrenal gland and is considered to be a biological marker of stress and anxiety. Serum or plasma cortisol levels have been previously studied in depressive patients but reported contradictory results.

Reports on the role of CYP enzyme in gastric cancer (GC) from the Eastern region of India are scarce. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily C member 9 (CYP2C9*3) among cases with gastric malignancy.

We evaluated the outcomes of AVB in patients with ACLF in a multinational cohort of APASL ACLF Research Consortium (AARC).
Methods: Prospectively maintained data from AARC database on patients with ACLF who developed AVB (ACLF-AVB) was analysed.
Background And Aims: We hypothesized that artificial intelligence (AI) models are more precise than standard models for predicting outcomes in acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
Methods: We recruited ACLF patients between 2009 and 2020 from APASL-ACLF Research Consortium (AARC). Their clinical data, investigations and organ involvement were serially noted for 90-days and utilized for AI modelling.
In this prospective randomized controlled trial, we compared the standard del Nido cardioplegia solution (SDN) with the modified del Nido cardioplegia solution (MDN) in which the base solution was the plain Ringer solution. A total of 80 patients aged < 12 years undergoing intracardiac repair of Tetralogy of Fallot were randomized into SDN (n = 39) or MDN (n = 41) groups. The primary outcome was a change in cardiac index (CI).

In this study, we used red mud as a stable supporting medium to develop red mud modified nZVI to form (RM-nZVI) composite. We assessed its sorptive/reductive removal of mercury (Hg) from aqueous solutions.

There are many previous reports reporting the significance of severity of LVDD on the outcome of liver transplantation or TIPS insertion, a few Indian studies have addressed the role of LVDD on survival in decompensated cirrhosis. The objective of this study is to assess the effect of LVDD on the survival of decompensated cirrhotic patients.

We analyzed the 28-day and 90-day mortality in ACLF patients with or without underlying cirrhosis enrolled in the ACLF Research Consortium (AARC) database.
Methods: A total of 1,621 patients were prospectively enrolled and 637 (39.
Background And Aims: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a rapidly progressive illness with high short-term mortality. Timely liver transplant (LT) may improve survival. We evaluated various indices for assessment of the severity of liver failure and their application for eligibility and timing of living donor LT (LDLT).

This prospective randomized trial tested this hypothesis.
Methods: Seventy-nine patients undergoing intracardiac repair of tetralogy of fallot were randomized to conventional ultrafiltration (CUF) + MUF (n = 39) or only CUF group (n = 40).
In this study, the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution were examined using activated charcoal derived from Sapindus trifoliate L fruit biomass in continuous fixed-bed column studies. The activated S. trifoliate L fruit charcoal was prepared by treating the fruit powder using concentrated nitric acid solution.
