Unlabelled: We report the case of a 61-year-old man admitted to our emergency department with fever. At admission, he was hypotensive and tachycardic. In the initial investigation, elevation of inflammatory parameters, acute kidney injury (Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) 3), hyperbilirubinemia, and hepatic cytocholestasis were evident.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in adult patients diagnosed with nosocomial meningitis who required admission to the ICU between April 2010 and March 2020. Meningitis/ventriculitis and intracranial infection were defined according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
Unlabelled: When stroke patients present with respiratory failure, the first thought that clinicians have is that it is probably related to aspiration pneumonia. However, other causes should be considered, such as intracardiac or intrapulmonary shunts, that could present with paradoxical embolism. Paradoxical embolism is a rare entity defined by the occurrence of a venous thrombotic event associated with a systemic arterial embolism.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of moderate-to-severe psoriasis in MTX-treated patients in Spain regarding to HRQoL, psoriasis clinical data and risk of hepatic fibrosis.
Methods: Observational, non-interventional, cross-sectional, retrospective, multicentre study, performed in Spain in moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis patients treated with MTX > 16 weeks prior to inclusion.
Pesticide air pollution by spraying was evaluated under different temperature, humidity and wind climatic conditions in Brazil. Field experiments were performed with application towards the soil and in guava orchards, where spray dispersion was monitored by adding p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), a fluorescent substance, as a tracer to the water contained in the spray tanks. Samples were collected with filter membranes (Whatman 180025), and the PABA was extracted from the filters by shaking with water in a Petri dish and measured in a spectrofluorometer.

We report a case of a 72-year-old woman, who presented with an asymptomatic erosive lesion on the vermilion area of the upper lip. Histopathology examination was consistent with basal cell carcinoma.

Since toxicological data on ametryn is scarce, the aim of this study was to evaluate rat reproductive toxicity. Thirty-six adult male Wistar rats (90 days) were divided into three groups: Co (control) and T1 and T2 exposed to 15 and 30 mg/kg/day of ametryn, respectively, for 56 days.

More recently, some authors have described several cases of lentigines appearing in resolving psoriatic plaques during or after treatment with anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) drugs used to treat severe plaque psoriasis, including adalimumab, etanercept, and infliximab. We report the case of a patient that developed multiple lentigines after clearance of the plaques of psoriasis receiving treatment with ustekinumab for his psoriasis.

Microbial displacement in the soil is an important process for bioremediation and dispersal of wastewater pathogens. We evaluated cell movement in surface and subsurface red-yellow podzolic soil driven by advection and microbial motility and also survival of a microbial population at high pressure as is prevalent in deep soil layers. Pseudomonas fluorescens Br 12, resistant to rifampycin and kanamycin, was used as a model organism traceable in non-sterile soil.

On the other hand, biological treatment is being proved to be an accessible alternative for soil and water remediation. Bioventing is commonly used for petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) spills.

The genetic modified Pseudomonas fluorescens Br 12, resistant to kanamycin and rifampycin, was used to follow the cotransport of the organochlorine acaricide dicofol through a nonsterilized soil column. P. fluorescens was found to bioaccumulate dicofol with the highest bioconcentration factor of 279 within 30 min.

The organochlorine Thiodan CE inhibited growth and nitrogenase activity of Azospirillum lipoferum. The active ingredient, Endosulfan, was nonspecifically bound to proteins and mainly adsorbed to the cell envelope with small amounts transported into cytosol. The involvement of the external membrane and cyst formation in protection against hazardous substances is discussed.

The ages ranged from 0 to 16 years and the lesions observed were abscesses, enlargement of regional lymph nodes, chronic ulceration, and ulceration associated with enlarged lymph nodes. The patients were treated with isoniazid, except 2 who required surgical drainage, with favourable results in all cases.
