Attenuation of arsenic trioxide induced cardiotoxicity through flaxseed oil in experimental rats.

Objectives: Arsenic trioxide (AsO) is a potent drug for acute promyelocytic leukaemia, but its clinical trials are allied with some serious adverse events mainly cardiac functional abnormalities. So the objective of our investigation is to identify the cardioprotective action of flaxseed oil (FSO), a natural compound against AsO induced cardiotoxicity.

Methods: Male wistar rats were treated with AsO (4 mg/kg) to induce cardiotoxicity.

Aspartame is one of the most widely used artificial sweeteners globally. Data concerning acute neurotoxicity of aspartame is controversial, and knowledge on its chronic effect is limited. In the current study, we investigated the chronic effects of aspartame on ionic homeostasis and regional monoamine neurotransmitter concentrations in the brain.

Astaxanthin modulates osteopontin and transforming growth factor β1 expression levels in a rat model of nephrolithiasis: a comparison with citrate administration.

Accuracy of ultrasound in the detection of inflow stenosis of arteriovenous fistulae: results of a prospective study.

While vascular ultrasound (US) has been highlighted to detect vascular access stenosis, its accuracy in the identification of inflow stenosis (IS) (anastomosis and/or juxta-anastomotic area) compared with the gold standard (angiography) has not been evaluated. One hundred three consecutive fistulae referred for interventions were included in this study. Preprocedure US of inflow segment was performed.

Secondary autogenous arteriovenous fistulas in the "fistula first" era: results of a longterm prospective study.

Background: The outflow vein of a dysfunctional arteriovenous dialysis access can be used to create a secondary autogenous arteriovenous fistula (SAVF) (type I). In the absence of an outflow vein, an SAVF can still be created elsewhere in the ipsilateral or contralateral extremity by identifying vessels suitable for SAVF creation (type II). But their patency rates and the use of tunneled dialysis catheters during the postoperative period have not been reported in a prospective fashion.
