This meta-analysis investigated efficacy of dapagliflozin as adjunctive therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 2-5. A systematic search was conducted of selected databases for randomised controlled trials that reported the mean change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) from baseline. Out of 1,682 identified studies, 9 trials comprising 13,057 patients were included.

Imatinib (IM), a breakthrough in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) treatment, is accompanied by discontinuation challenges owing to drug intolerance. Although mutation is a key cause of CML resistance, understanding mechanisms independent of is also important. This study investigated the sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) signaling-associated genes ( and ) and their role in BCR-ABL1-independent resistant CML, an area currently lacking investigation.

Background: Improper use of over-the-counter (OTC) steroid medication has been linked to recalcitrant dermatophytosis. There is proven evidence of HPA axis suppression by the use of long-term oral steroids. This study aims to determine the prevalence and pattern of inappropriate OTC steroid use and its effects on the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in adults with recalcitrant dermatophytosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the cost-effectiveness and adherence to DMARD therapy in 150 rheumatoid arthritis patients over approximately 10.7 weeks at a teaching hospital in Uttarakhand, India.
  • It assessed costs of four treatment regimens, with costs ranging from 46.05 Rs for a simple regimen to 17,349.4 Rs for a combination therapy including a biological DMARD, showing the overall mean cost of treatment was 205.81 Rs.
  • Results indicated that most patients had medium adherence (47.3%) to treatment, while the cost-effectiveness varied significantly between regimens; the least expensive regimen was found to be the most cost-effective.

Background: Glycemic control is the major therapeutic objective in diabetes. Poor glycemic control in diabetes mellitus can be prevented by using rational use of anti-diabetic medication, which needs to be evaluated for effectiveness by prescription pattern studies. The objective of this study was to assess the prescribing pattern and adherence to the American Diabetic Association's (ADA) treatment guidelines in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in a tertiary care teaching hospital in Uttarakhand, India.

Background Lamotrigine (LTG) and subconvulsive doses of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) as a model mimic drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE), which is a serious unmet medical condition. Previous evidence suggests an imperative role of neuroinflammation in the development of DRE. Various preclinical models of brain injury have reported potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of ferulic acid (FA).

Background Paclitaxel (PTX)-induced peripheral neuropathy (PIPN) is nonresponsive to the currently available analgesics. Previous studies have shown the role of oxidative stress and central sensitization in the development of peripheral neuropathy. Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) acts as a nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) activator with neuroprotective benefits and is approved for use in multiple sclerosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed how disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) were prescribed to patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a teaching hospital in Uttarakhand, India.
  • A total of 150 RA patients were studied, focusing on their demographics, specific DMARDs used, dosages, and any complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies they might be taking.
  • The findings showed that methotrexate was the most commonly prescribed DMARD, with many patients also using other adjuvant medications and a significant number relying on self-medicated CAM therapies.

Background And Aims: The study was undertaken to assess the empirical antibiotic prescription in uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) cases and compare them with the Indian council of medical research (ICMR) 2017 guidelines on antimicrobial use. The objective of this study was to study the compliance of prescriptions for uncomplicated UTI with respect to the guidelines recommended by ICMR and assess the success rates in terms of mean days taken to achieve symptomatic relief.

Methodology: This study was conducted on patients (of age >16 years) presenting to the Urology, Medicine and Gynecology OPD with complaints of uncomplicated UTI over two months.

Introduction: Anticancer drugs contribute significantly to the global burden of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Any attempt to quantify their magnitude and provide upgraded knowledge would help oncologists in writing safer prescriptions.

Aim: This observational follow-up study was conducted on newly diagnosed cancer patients receiving anticancer therapy with an aim to determine the frequency, severity, causality, predictability, and preventability of ADRs.

Gout is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the body, associated with painful arthritis, tophi and nephropathy. The most frequently used pharmacologic urate lowering strategies involve reducing urate production with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor and enhancing urinary excretion of uric acid with a uricosuric agent. Urate lowering agents are limited in number, availability and effectiveness.

The reaction between [V(IV)O(acac)(2)] and the ONN donor Schiff base obtained by the condensation of pyridoxal and 2-aminoethylbenzimidazole (Hpydx-aebmz, I) or 2-aminomethylbenzimidazole (Hpydx-ambmz, II) in equimolar amounts results in the formation of [V(IV)O(acac)(pydx-aebmz)] 1 and [V(IV)O(acac)(pydx-ambmz)] 2, respectively. The aerobic oxidation of the methanolic solution of 1 yielded [V(V)O(2)(pydx-aebmz)] 3 and its reaction with aqueous H(2)O(2) gave the oxidoperoxidovanadium(v) complex, [V(V)O(O(2))(pydx-aebmz)] 4. The formation of 4 in solution is also established by titrations of methanolic solutions of 1 with H(2)O(2).

Primary atrophic rhinitis is a progressive chronic nasal disease and histopathologically characterized by squamous metaplasia and two characteristic types of vascular involvement (type I and type II). Despite its chronicity and squamous transformation, nothing is known about the occurrence of malignancy in atrophic rhinitis. The present work was undertaken to study the histopathological characteristics in primary atrophic rhinitis and identify whether it has any association with malignant transformation.
