Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and robot-assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) have emerged as the two surgical treatments of medication-refractory benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The comparative outcomes of en-bloc HoLEP with early apical release and RASP with modified Freyer's technique remain unexplored. Between 2018 and 2022, patients with medication-refractory BPH and prostate volume ≥80 g underwent HoLEP or RASP depending on clinical characteristics, patient choice, and surgeon preference.

Article Synopsis
  • Precision Prostatectomy (PP) is a treatment for men with unilateral prostate cancer that aims to preserve functional outcomes, and this study evaluates its safety and effectiveness outside of the initial center where it was developed.
  • The study monitored patients who underwent PP between 2022 and 2023, assessing their functional status and checking for any cancer recurrence post-operation, with follow-ups every three months.
  • Results showed a median patient age of 63, no serious surgical complications, and high rates of functional preservation, with 91% using no pads and nearly 91% of previously potent patients maintaining their potency after one year, indicating PP's promise for select individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • - Triticum militinae, a wild relative of wheat, is known for its disease resistance, with recent studies evaluating 21 developed lines for resistance against leaf and stripe rust diseases at both seedling and adult plant stages.
  • - Eight of the TMD lines showed strong seedling resistance to both diseases, while others displayed varying degrees of resistance and susceptibility, indicating a complex genetic background.
  • - Notably, all TMD lines were cytologically stable, and the research suggests that many of them likely carry unknown resistance genes against stripe rust, making them valuable for future genetic studies in wheat resistance.

A marker-assisted backcrossing program initiated to transfer leaf rust resistance gene from cv. Trinakria to hexaploid wheat variety HD2932 cotransferred a stripe rust resistance gene, , along with The cross of hexaploid recurrent parent HD2932 with tetraploid donor parent Trinakria produced pentaploid F plants. Fs were backcrossed with recurrent parent HD2932 to produce BCF generation.

The mega wheat variety HD2967 was improved for leaf and stripe rust resistance by marker-assisted backcross breeding. After its release in 2011, HD2967 became susceptible to stripe rust and moderately susceptible to leaf rust. The leaf rust resistance gene was transferred into HD2967 from the durum wheat genotype Trinakria.

Crossed fused renal ectopia (CFRE) is a rare fusion anomaly of the kidneys, with a predisposition to calculus disease. Management of renal calculi in CFRE is not standardized because of paucity of literature. We managed a 32-year-old man with left to right CFRE with multiple stones in both the kidneys by percutaneous nephrolithotomy for the right moiety and laparoscopic pyelolithotomy for the crossed moiety.
