Barriers and facilitators for increased accessibility to quality rehabilitation services in low- and middle- income countries: a systematic review.

Introduction: With an increasing number of people experiencing limitations in functioning during their life course, the need for comprehensive rehabilitation services is high. In 2017, the WHO Rehabilitation 2030 initiative noted that the need for the establishment and expansion of rehabilitation services is paramount in order to obtain well-being for the population and to ensure equal access to quality healthcare for all. The organization of rehabilitation services is however facing challenges especially in low-and middle-income countries with a very small proportion of people who require rehabilitation actually getting them.

Congenital tongue base lipoblastoma causing neonatal airway compromise.

Lipoblastomas are benign tumours of immature fat cells presenting in infancy. A lipoblastoma within the airway lumen causing airway compromise is an extremely rare occurrence. We present a 6 hours of life girl who had airway compromise due to a lobulated mass at the base of the tongue.

Chemopreventive activity of Tualang honey against oral squamous cell carcinoma-in vivo.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemopreventive activity of Malaysian jungle Tualang honey (TH) after oral carcinogenesis induced with 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4 NQO).

Study Design: A total of 28 male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were distributed into 4 groups as follows: group 1 (nontreated group); group 2 (control), which received 4 NQO during 8 weeks in drinking water only; and groups 3 and 4, which received 4 NQO for 8 weeks in drinking water and treated with TH 1000 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg by oral gavage for 10 weeks. All rats from all experiments were sacrificed after 22 weeks, and the incidence of oral neoplasms and histopathologic changes were microscopically evaluated.

Stepease™ diabetic socks: An answer to efficacious indoor foot pressure relief- A prospective study.

Background: Diabetic foot ulcer is commonly seen in people with diabetes mellitus. Inadequate plantar pressure offloading has been identified as a contributing factor to development of diabetic foot ulcers. Various pressure off-loading footwear are widely available in the market but poor compliance has been reported especially for indoor usage.

Facilitators and Barriers to the Rehabilitation Workforce Capacity Building in Low- to Middle-Income Countries.

An increase in population and chronic conditions leading to disability require increasing emphasis on rehabilitation and health intervention. Poorer countries do not usually have the rehabilitation workforce needed to promote societal inclusion and participation. The roles of the rehabilitation workforce were often not clearly defined, leading to task shifting among rehabilitation professionals.

Prognostic factors and the role of adjuvant chemotherapy in post-curative surgery for Dukes B and C colon cancers and survival outcomes: a Malaysian experience.

Background: Adjuvant chemotherapy improves survival in Dukes C colon cancers post-curative resection. However, the evidence for a role with Dukes B lesions remains unproven despite frequent use for disease characterized by poor prognostic features. In view of limited Asia-specific data, this study aimed to determine survival outcomes and identify prognostic factors in a tertiary teaching hospital in Malaysia.

Simultaneous non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the external auditory canal and thyroid gland: A case report.

Approximately 25% of all cases of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) occur in the head and neck region; NHL of the external auditory canal (EAC) and thyroid gland are rare. Specific immunohistochemical staining of the excised tissue is required to confirm the final pathologic diagnosis. We report the case of a 53-year-old woman with underlying systemic lupus erythematosus and autoimmune hemolytic anemia that were in remission.
