Context: Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is an increasingly recognized neoplasm of the pancreas, accounting for 5% of pancreatic neoplasms, it is considered difficult to diagnose by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of EUS-guided FNA cytology in the diagnosis of IPMN of the pancreas.
Patients: Eight cases of surgically proven IPMN with pre-operative endoscopic ultrasound-guided (EUS-guided) FNA cytology were collected for retrospective analysis.
Background: A high incidence of Helicobacter pylori among family members of children with H. pylori gastritis has previously been documented on biopsy material. The main objective of this study was the genetic clarification of H.

We assessed its expression immunohistochemically in normal human colon tissue, colon adenomas, colon carcinomas, and normal tissue distant from carcinomas. Normal colonocytes expressed all DNA-PK proteins.

We describe the case of a 18-year-old male patient who first presented with decompensated cirrhosis, fever and generalized lymphadenopathy. He had abnormal results for liver biochemical tests, with a hepatitic-like picture and high titre of antinuclear antibodies. According to the scoring system proposed by the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group he had 'definite' autoimmune hepatitis and responded well to immunosuppressive treatment.

Design: Open, prospective, two-centre study.

This is a retrospective endoscopic study on the incidence of gastric epithelial polyps (adenomas, hyperplastic, inflammatory) in 12,974 consecutive symptomatic Greek adults submitted to endoscopy during a 4-year period, in two endoscopy units. A total of 258 polyps were found in 157 patients (1.2%), 80 males and 77 females (age: 22-87 years); 67.

Gastroscopy showed a sessile polypoid lesion in the area of the papilla of Vater and histology was normal. Barium swallow follow-through and CT scan revealed a round intraluminal filling defect.

In 34 of them, multiple biopsies from the colonic mucosa were taken. Fifty non-cirrhotics (roughly matched for age and sex with the patients) who were colonoscoped because of atypical abdominal complaints, served as controls for rectal varices, polyps, and hemorrhoids.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA case of ectopic ACTH secretion by primary small-cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder is described. The patient, a 38-year-old woman, presented with Cushing's syndrome. Although immunocytochemistry of the tumor for ACTH and corticotropin-releasing factor yielded negative results, in situ hybridization demonstrated a conclusive signal for proopiomelanocortin messenger RNA.

The histologic appearance of the majority of the tumors was characterized by great pleomorphism. The predominant histologic patterns could be classified as either fibroblastic or histiocytic.
