Background: Non-prescription sale of antibiotics is one of the major causes for increased consumption of antibiotics which facilitates the emergence of drug resistance. Over-the-counter sale of antibiotics in India, without prescription and often at partial doses, is quite common even though the practice is not legal.

New variants of SARS-CoV-2 are continuously being reported. To curtail the spread of this virus, it is essential to find an efficient and potent vaccine. Here, we report in silico designing of a protein (ferritin: FR) nanocage fused with multiple epitopes identified using the immuno-informatics approach and high-throughput screening.

One of the many mutations that have occurred in the viral genome is the V483A mutation, which is a part of the receptor-binding motif present in the S1 domain of the spike protein. V483A mutant virus is popular in North America with 36 cases so far and frequently occurring in recent days. This review compares the wild-type and the V483A mutants to analyze certain factors like the interaction between the virus and host-cell interface, binding affinity, stability, partition energy, hydrophobicity, occurrence rate and transmissibility.

This study aimed at exploring microalgal heterogeneity from fresh water samples collected from inland water bodies in the heavily built city of Singapore. Culturable pure isolates (n = 94) were subject to an in-house microalgal DNA extraction method and LSU rDNA sequencing. Isolates were analysed for their predominance and distribution.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers aimed to understand why oral vaccines, like the oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV), are less effective in low-income countries by analyzing immune responses in 292 infants from India.
  • Despite measuring various immune factors, no specific immune profile was linked to the effectiveness of OPV, though higher stool viral pathogen presence was noted in infants who didn't respond to the vaccine.
  • By using machine learning, they demonstrated that it's possible to predict vaccine response based on immune markers and infection status, achieving an accuracy of around 58%, but emphasized that better results may come from studying mucosal tissue more closely.

Diarrheal disease due to Group A rotaviruses remain a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the less developed parts of the world. India has started a phased roll out of rotavirus vaccine in the national immunization program. This analysis summarizes the rotavirus genotype strain distribution pre-vaccine introduction in Vellore, India from December 2005 to June 2016.
