Triple negative breast cancers (TNBC) are characterized by a poor prognosis and a lack of targeted treatments. Their progression depends on tumor cell intrinsic factors, the tumor microenvironment and host characteristics. Although adipocytes, the primary stromal cells of the breast, have been determined to be plastic in physiology and cancer, the tumor-derived molecular mediators of tumor-adipocyte crosstalk have not been identified yet.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBreast cancer progression is highly dependent on the heterotypic interaction between tumor cells and stromal cells of the tumor microenvironment. Cancer-associated adipocytes (CAAs) are emerging as breast cancer cell partners favoring proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. This article discussed the intersection between extracellular signals and the transcriptional cascade that regulates adipocyte differentiation in order to appreciate the molecular pathways that have been described to drive adipocyte dedifferentiation.

This study used whole-genome analyses of lung tissue to identify polymorphisms acting as expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) for 60 genes of relevance to SARS-CoV-2 infection susceptibility. The expression of genes with confirmed or possible roles in viral entry-replication and in host antiviral responses was studied in the non-diseased lung tissue of 408 lung adenocarcinoma patients.

Recently, green tea catechins have received much attention, as they can facilitate a number of antioxidative mechanisms and improve glycemic control.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the cytoprotective effects of (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) against oxidative stress damage in a cell line of rat neurons.
Recently, D-aspartic acid (d-Asp) has been suggested as being involved in mechanisms regulating reproduction activity in animals and human. In this study we analyzed the effects of DL-Asp oral administration on sperm production in the rabbit. Bucks from 60, bred in a genetic centre and used for semen production, were divided in 2 subgroups of 6 individuals.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFSubcutaneous injections of adrenomedullin prevented reserpine-induced gastric mucosal damage in a dose-dependent manner (1-1000 ng/kg), but did not interfere with the lesions produced by ethanol administration. In pylorus-ligated rats adrenomedullin significantly reduced gastric volume, total and free acid output as well as ulcer formation. The gastroprotective activity of adrenomedullin was not present in rats pretreated with cysteamine.

Two of these derivatives, 6A and 9B, showed interesting activities. The results of the pharmacological assays are discussed.

Previous studies indicate that blood levels of cyclosporin-A are increased by concomittant administration of grapefruit juice in healthy subjects and patients. It was suggested that grapefruit juice could inhibit the metabolism of cyclosporin-A by CYP3A4, the predominant cytochrome P450 enzyme in the gut wall and liver. However, up to date, the mechanism of action of grapefruit juice has not been conclusively identified and no work has been conducted in animals to quantify its effect on cyclosporin-A metabolism.

The compounds were screened for their analgesic and antiinflammatory activities, acute toxicity and ulcerogenic effect. Substitution in the benzene moiety of the quinazolinone ring did not show any advantage for the analgesic activity, whereas it improved in some cases the antiinflammatory activity.

All the compounds were tested for their analgesic and antiinflammatory activities, as well as for their ulcerogenic potential and acute toxicity. Some derivatives, when compared to phenylbutazone, proved more active in the tests for analgesic and antiexudative activities, but less active in the carrageenin paw oedema test.

Our previous studies show that chronic administration of L-arginine decreases cyclosporin-A-induced bone loss. The present study was designed to investigate whether a soy diet could prevent cyclosporin A-induced osteopenia and eventually improve the protective effect of L-arginine. Rats on soy diet were treated with cyclosporin-A, L-arginine, cyclosporin-A + L-arginine or saline.

A series of the title derivatives with or without bromine was tested and the results of pharmacological screening are discussed.

Alcohol-dependence was induced in animals (9-15 g/kg ethanol solution at 20% for a period of 4 days) in order to measure the effects of acetyl-L-carnitine on ethanol abstinence syndrome. The ethanol dependence phase was characterized by the onset of signs and responses of progressive severity: hyperactivity, tremors, spastic rigidity and spontaneous convulsive seizures.

In this study we have measured malonaldehyde (MDA) as an index of endogenous lipoperoxidation, the latter being a relevant aspect of oxidative stress that occurs in different neuronal systems. Our results clearly demonstrate that in physiological conditions specific neuronal systems exhibit a different rate of MDA formation among which substantia nigra neurons show a particular vulnerability to oxidative stress. Chronic ethanol treatment significantly enhances MDA production, particularly at the level of cholinergic structures (septum) as well as in the dopaminergic system (substantia nigra) and cortex.
