Background Oral candidiasis is the most prevalent oral fungal infection, and existing antifungal agents have side effects such as drug intolerance, resistance, and toxicity. Herbal essential oils are emerging as an alternative therapeutic approach for treating fungal infections (), commonly known as oregano, and (), commonly known as clove, are known to have antifungal properties and are effective against fluconazole-resistant strains. A combination of essential oils has a synergistic effect and aids in achieving effective antifungal activity at sufficiently low concentrations, which could lead to reduced side effects and resistance.

Background: Breast cancer comprises a highly heterogeneous subset of tumours that respond well to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy (NAC). Tumour Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TIL) act as a means to an end by shedding light on the treatment response as well as predictive factors to the clinicopathological features for the same. Therefore, this article attempts to shift the attention to the relevance of TIL in the aforementioned aspects by bringing to notice the contrasting traits displayed by them in the different immunohistochemical subtypes of breast carcinoma.

Background: There are many different types of malocclusions that may result from the sagittal, vertical, or transverse deviations in normal craniofacial development. When it comes to orthodontic problems, malocclusions in the sagittal plane may have a considerable impact on a person's self-esteem as well as their ability to speak and eat properly. Sagittal anomalies in the skeletal, dental, and soft tissue systems may now be accurately diagnosed using a universally accepted standard lateral cephalogram (SLCE).

Objectives: To compare operative times, safety, and effectiveness of percutaneous nephrolithotomy in the supine versus the prone position.

Materials And Methods: An observational study of 100 patients was conducted in our institution for 2years from 2018 to 2020 divided into 2 groups: 50 patients underwent modified supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and 50 patients underwent standard prone PCNL. The inclusion criteria included a renal calculus (calyx or pelvis) of any size for which PCNL was indicated and exclusion criteria were patients having contraindications for PCNL such as bleeding disorders, pregnancy, high risk, and co-morbid conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the increase in cases of COVID-19 associated mucormycosis (CAM) during the second wave of COVID-19 in India, mainly affecting patients with diabetes.
  • Conducted at Noble Hospital in Pune between April 2020 and August 2021, the research involved 59 CAM patients, revealing high mortality rates linked to factors like uncontrolled diabetes and high COVID-19 CT severity scores.
  • Treatment success was achieved through surgical debridement and antifungal therapy, with 74.6% of patients recovering, highlighting the urgent need for appropriate steroid use in COVID-19 treatment to prevent complications like CAM.

Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) or cytokine storm is thought to be the cause of inflammatory lung damage, worsening pneumonia and death in patients with COVID-19. Steroids (Methylprednislone or Dexamethasone) and Tocilizumab (TCZ), an interleukin-6 receptor antagonist, are approved for treatment of CRS in India. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy of TCZ and steroid in COVID-19 associated CRS.

India has the second largest COVID-19 epidemic in the world as per current estimates. Central and peripheral nervous system involvement in COVID-19 (Neuro COVID-19) has been increasingly identified and reported. This letter is the first report of the spectrum of neurological disorders observed in patients with severe COVID-19 from a resource limited setting like India.

Sol-gel-synthesized Co-Cu-Zn ferrite nanoparticles diluted with Dy ions were investigated in terms of their structural, morphological, elastic, magnetic and dielectric properties. X-ray diffraction patterns showed the formation of a single-phase cubic spinel structure. As the concentration of Dy ions was increased, the lattice length gradually increased from 8.

Background: The cell culture technique has become a routine and a popular method for its wide applications in the field of cell biology and biotechnology and in medical research. Isolation of primary cells over the cancer cells is an essential component of cell culture technology as they are the reliable source to understand normal physiological, morphological and molecular process of human cells. As fibroblasts are the prominent cells of the connective tissue of oral mucosa, many disease entities and histogenesis are linked to fibroblasts.

Objective: This study was aimed at examining the role of Tenascin-C in T cell trafficking in Oral Lichen Planus (OLP).

Design: For the in vivo immunohistochemical analyses, 115 OLP samples were collected from patients and immunostaining was performed. The intensity and distribution of TN-C expression were quantified and correlated with histological analyses of basement membrane integrity and presence of inflammatory infiltrate.

Objectives: Metastasis in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) can occur in a variety of ways, and draining lymphatics and lymph nodes serve as a common route. Prior to metastasis, lymph nodes elicit an immune response to either wall off or create a favorable environment for homing of tumor cells. This immune response to tumor stimuli is visualized by recognizing various immunoreactive patterns exhibited by the lymph node.

Background: Stature or body height is one of the most important and useful anthropometric parameters which determines the physical identity of an individual. As craniofacial structures have the advantage of being composed largely of hard tissue which is relatively indestructible, the careful study of these can enable reliable determination of stature of the person in life. Studies pertaining to stature estimation from facial measurements are limited in an Indian population.

Intestinal malrotation is a congenital anomaly that results from an abnormality in the rotation and fixation of the gut as it returns to the abdominal cavity during development. Intussusception is a condition characterised by telescoping of one segment of the bowel into another segment. The combination of malrotation and intussusception is frequently a cause of intestinal obstruction in the paediatric age group.

Objective: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) invades and metastasizes, by degrading the extracellular matrix (ECM) and is associated with poor prognosis. Matrix-metalloproteinase (MMP-9) can initiate ECM degradation and angiogenesis which brings a significant change in tumor microenvironment favoring tumor progression. A major thrust has been laid on understanding this key enzyme as it has significant implications for cancer therapy.

Background: In oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN) expression has been noted in the cell membrane throughout the epithelium of the lesion, suggesting its increased expression.

Objectives: The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare the expression of EMMPRIN in the normal oral mucosa (NOM), different histological grades of oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) and OSCC.

Materials And Methods: A total of 100 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of NOM ( = 10), 20 cases each of mild, moderate and severe (OED) ( = 60), and 10 cases each of well differentiated, moderately differentiated and poorly differentiated carcinomas ( = 30) were included in the study.

An entity of bizarre plasma cells has been observed, containing spherical inclusions of immunoglobulins within the cytoplasm. These cells are termed as Mott cells and are believed to occur commonly in cases of chronic inflammation. Until now, they were reported to occur in systemic diseases, various hematolymphoid malignancies and in some syndromes; but their occurrence in chronic periapical infections of the oral cavity, given the paucity of available literature, raises questions about their obscure nature.
