Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) in schizophrenia are typically characterized by rich emotional content. Despite the prominent role of emotion in regulating normal perception, the neural interface between emotion-processing regions such as the amygdala and auditory regions involved in perception remains relatively unexplored in AVH. Here, we studied brain metabolism using FDG-PET in 9 remitted patients with schizophrenia that previously reported severe AVH during an acute psychotic episode and 8 matched healthy controls.

We quantified vaginal lactobacilli and determined their relationship with genital HIV-1 shedding and found a significant negative association between reduced quantity of lactobacilli and cervical HIV-1 viral load (r(2) = - 0.8900, P < 0.01), which may have implications of increased chances of sexual transmission of HIV-1 and genital infections.

Biofilm formation is implicated as a potential virulence factor in Candida species and carries important clinical repercussions because of their increased resistance to antifungal treatment, ability to withstand host defences and to serve as a reservoir for continuing infections. The present study was undertaken to determine the biofilm production among oral Candida isolates from HIV-positive and HIV-negative individuals from Pune, India. Biofilm formation was determined using the spectrophotometric or microtitre plate method in 182 Candida isolates, of which 154 were from HIV-positive and 28 were from HIV-negative individuals.

In situ follicular neoplasia/lymphoma: three illustrative cases exemplifying unique disease presentations.

We report three elderly patients with follicular lymphoma in situ (FLIS) each highlighting a unique pattern of disease presentation and progression. The first patient had incidentally detected FLIS with peripheral blood spill and yet had an 11-year uneventful follow up. The second patient with an overt follicular lymphoma (FL) developed high-grade transformation in jejunum with FLIS extensively involving the Payers patches.
