Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts in Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Cholangiocarcinoma.

Primary liver cancer (PLC) includes hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and is the sixth most common cancer worldwide with poor prognosis. PLC is characterized by an abundant stromal reaction in which cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are one of the major stromal components. Solid evidence has demonstrated the crucial role of CAFs in tumor progression, and CAF abundance is often correlated with poor clinical outcomes.

A case of recurrent systemic capillary leak syndrome triggered by influenza A infection associated with cardiogenic shock supported by veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS) is a rare and under-recognized disease which is potentially fatal. We report a case of SCLS triggered by influenza A infection associated with fulminant cardiogenic shock, successfully supported by veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO). Strong clinical suspicion with appropriate supportive treatment can be life-saving for patients with SCLS.
