Management of atrial fibrillation (AF) is a clinical conundrum in people with kidney failure. Stroke risk is disproportionately high, but clinicians have a limited armamentarium to improve outcomes in this population in whom there is a concurrently high bleeding risk. Direct oral anticoagulants may have a superior benefit-risk profile compared with vitamin K antagonists in people on hemodialysis.

Ultrafiltration (UF) is an alternative therapy to reduce congestion, however its benefits, efficacy and safety are unclear.
Objectives: To assess the effects of UF compared to diuretic therapy on clinical outcomes such as mortality and rehospitalisation rates.

Background: Albumin-adjusted calcium remains widely used in clinical practice with guidelines for chronic kidney disease (CKD) mineral bone disorder recommending the use of serum calcium for monitoring. This is despite ionized calcium being the biologically active fraction. This study aimed to investigate the ability of total calcium and albumin-adjusted calcium to correctly assign calcium status in stage 5/5D CKD across non-dialysis, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients.

However, screening instruments for major depressive episode (MDE) have not been validated in this setting. We aimed to validate the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Beck Depression Inventory - Fast Screen (BDI-FS) with the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) in patients with suspected obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Design: Mixed retrospective-observational study.
