: Ocular proprioception is implicated in balance control and heterophoria is associated with abnormal posture, though previous research focused mainly on the role of vertical phoria and the use of vertical prisms. This study aims to evaluate whether ocular misalignment and prismatic correction of horizontal phoria affect posture. : Sixty-nine ( = 69) young healthy subjects were included and equally divided by horizontal distance phoria: orthophoria ( = 23), esophoria ( = 23) and exophoria ( = 23).

European consensus-based interdisciplinary guideline for melanoma. Part 2: Treatment - Update 2024.

Cutaneous melanomas are excised with one to two-centimeter safety margins. For a correct stage classification and treatment decision, a sentinel lymph node biopsy shall be offered in patients with tumor thickness ≥ 1.

Incidence and prognosis of cutaneous melanoma in European adolescents and young adults (AYAs): EUROCARE-6 retrospective cohort results.

Background: Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is rare in adolescents and young adults (AYA, 15-39 years at cancer diagnosis) and studies on CM in AYAs are scarce. Our aim is to update CM incidence and survival in European AYAs and to compare incidence and survival both with other age groups and over time.

Methods: We used the EUROCARE-6 database (108 cancer registries; 29 EU countries), calculating incidence rates (IR) per 100,000 individuals/year in the European population (years of diagnosis: 2006-2013), 5-year relative survival (RS), and 5-year RS conditional to surviving the first year after diagnosis, for the follow-up period 2010-2014 (cases diagnosed in 2006-2013).

First-line encorafenib plus binimetinib and pembrolizumab for advanced BRAF V600-mutant melanoma: Safety lead-in results from the randomized phase III STARBOARD study.

Background: BRAF inhibitors plus MEK inhibitors (BRAFi/MEKi) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) are approved for BRAF V600-mutant advanced melanoma. Combinations of BRAFi/MEKi with CPIs may further improve outcomes and could offer additional treatment strategies.

Methods: STARBOARD (NCT04657991) is a phase III study with an initial safety lead-in (SLI) phase conducted to determine the recommended phase III dose (RP3D) for encorafenib in combination with binimetinib and pembrolizumab.

Sequencing of Checkpoint or BRAF/MEK Inhibitors on Brain Metastases in Melanoma.

Background: The impact of the order of treatment with checkpoint inhibitors or BRAF/MEK inhibitors on the development of brain metastases in patients with metastatic unresectable V600-mutant melanoma is unknown. The SECOMBIT trial examined the impact of the order of receipt of these treatments in such patients.

Methods: In this three-arm trial, we reviewed patients without brain metastases who received the BRAF/MEK inhibitors encorafenib and binimetinib until they had progressive disease followed by the immune checkpoint inhibitors ipilimumab and nivolumab (arm A); or treatment with ipilimumab and nivolumab until they had progressive disease followed by encorafenib and binimetinib (arm B); or treatment with encorafenib and binimetinib for 8 weeks followed by ipilimumab and nivolumab until they had progressive disease followed by retreatment with encorafenib arm binimetinib (arm C).

Efficacy of anti PD-1 therapy in children and adolescent melanoma patients (MELCAYA study).

Background: Data on the efficacy and safety of anti PD-1 antibodies in children and adolescents (CA) with melanoma are lacking. The aim of this study was to determine outcomes of CA melanoma patients receiving anti PD-1 antibodies.

Methods: Melanoma patients ≤18 years treated with anti PD-1 were retrospectively retrieved from 15 academic centers.

Adjuvant pembrolizumab versus placebo in resected stage III melanoma (EORTC 1325-MG/KEYNOTE-054): long-term, health-related quality-of-life results from a double-blind, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial.

Background: In the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) 1325-MG/KEYNOTE-054 study, adjuvant pembrolizumab improved recurrence-free survival and distant-metastasis-free survival in patients with resected stage III melanoma. Earlier results showed no effect of pembrolizumab on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Little is known about HRQOL after completion of treatment with pembrolizumab, an important research area concerning patients who are likely to become long-term survivors.

Outcomes With Postrecurrence Systemic Therapy Following Adjuvant Checkpoint Inhibitor Treatment for Resected Melanoma in CheckMate 238.

Purpose: In phase III CheckMate 238, adjuvant nivolumab significantly improved recurrence-free survival compared with ipilimumab in patients with resected stage IIIB-C/IV melanoma without a significant difference in overall survival (OS). Here, we investigate progression-free survival (PFS) and OS after postrecurrence systemic therapy.

Patients And Methods: Patients 15 years or older with resected stage IIIB-C/IV melanoma were stratified by stage and tumor PD-L1 status and randomly assigned to receive nivolumab 3 mg/kg every 2 weeks, or ipilimumab 10 mg/kg every 3 weeks for four doses and then every 12 weeks for 1 year or until disease recurrence, unacceptable toxicity, or withdrawal of consent.

Among them, ethmoidal foraminas (EFs) are certainly those that have more clinical importance and indeed have been deeply investigated. Placental Protein 13: Vasomodulatory Effects on Uterine Arteries and Potential Implications for Preeclampsia.

Placental protein 13 (PP13) exhibits a plasma concentration that increases gradually during normal gestation, a process that is disrupted in preeclampsia, which is characterized by elevated vascular resistance, reduced utero-placental blood flow, and intrauterine growth restriction. This study investigated PP13's role in vascular tone regulation and its molecular mechanisms. Uterine and subcutaneous arteries, isolated from both pregnant and non-pregnant women, were precontracted with the thromboxane analogue U46619 and exposed to PP13 using pressurized myography.

Final Results for Adjuvant Dabrafenib plus Trametinib in Stage III Melanoma.

Background: The 5-year results of this trial showed that adjuvant therapy with dabrafenib plus trametinib resulted in longer relapse-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival than placebo among patients with V600-mutated stage III melanoma. Longer-term data were needed, including data regarding overall survival.

Methods: We randomly assigned 870 patients with resected stage III melanoma with V600 mutations to receive 12 months of dabrafenib (150 mg twice daily) plus trametinib (2 mg once daily) or two matched placebos.

Multi-Magnet Cochlear Implant Technology and Magnetic Resonance Imaging: The Safety Issue.

Despite the spread of novel-generation cochlear-implant (CI) magnetic systems, access to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for CI recipients is still limited due to safety concerns. The aim of this study is to assess and record the experiences of Hires Ultra 3D (Advanced Bionics) recipients who underwent an MRI examination. A multicentric European survey about this topic was conducted focusing on safety issues, and the results were compared with the current literature.

The Effects of Caloric Restriction on Inflammatory Targets in the Prostates of Aged Rats.

Numerous animal models have demonstrated that caloric restriction (CR) is an excellent tool to delay aging and increase the quality of life, likely because it counteracts age-induced oxidative stress and inflammation. The aging process can affect the prostate in three ways: the onset of benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and prostate cancer. In this study, we used 14 aged male Sprague Dawley rats, which were allocated into two groups, at the age of 18 months old.

COLUMBUS 7-year update: A randomized, open-label, phase III trial of encorafenib plus binimetinib versus vemurafenib or encorafenib in patients with BRAF V600E/K-mutant melanoma.

Background: Treatment with encorafenib plus binimetinib and encorafenib monotherapy is associated with improved progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared with vemurafenib in patients with BRAF V600E/K-mutant metastatic melanoma.
