Metallurgical industrial processes have been reported to cause higher aluminium (Al) exposure in humans through plant food intake due to higher soil Al content and acidification of soil resulted from industrial acid rains. Mandi-Gobindgarh is critically environmentally polluted steel industrial town in India in which Al is used for deoxidation, grain refining and alloying in steel production. The Al processing has been reported to release Al into the environment, and therefore present study was undertaken to investigate the dietary Al exposure in children and adult population of Mandi-Gobindgarh from consumption of vegetable food stuffs grown in the fields around steel industries.

The influence of bovine diet on the metabolome of reconstituted skim milk powder (SMP) and protein ingredients produced from the milk of cows fed on pasture or concentrate-based diets was investigated. Cows were randomly assigned to diets consisting of perennial ryegrass only (GRS), perennial ryegrass/white clover sward (CLV), or indoor total mixed ration (TMR) for an entire lactation. In this study, we have developed a rapid and cost-effective method employing platinum ion (Pt4+)-capped fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) coupled with loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) to detect dual MRSA genes. We synthesized nitrogen- and chlorine-co-doped fluorescent CQDs (CQDSPDs) from spermidine trihydrochloride via a simple one-step pyrolysis. The CQDSPDs capped with Pt4+ ions through the cooperative coordination of the amine and chlorine groups on the surface of CQDs facilitated the double-stranded DNA (dsDNA)-induced fluorescence quenching of CQDs, and enabled the construction of the CQDSPDs/Pt4+ probe for the detection of as few as 10 copies of the MRSA gene (mecA and femA).

The single crystals of two structural isomers of bis-olefinic molecules were shown to have contrasting properties in terms of their photoreactivity: one exhibits an excellent ability to form polymers, accompanied with bending of crystals upon irradiation, while the other is photostable. The photoreactive crystal is a first example in which [2+2] polymerization leads to bending of the crystals, with implications for the design of photoactuators. The hydrate formation ability of one of these molecular isomers promotes the solid-state reactivity in its crystal, as the H O molecules act as a template to bring the olefin molecules into the required arrangement for [2+2] polymerization.

Nuclear spin hyperpolarized water is utilized to obtain protein spectra not only in the folded state but also during the refolding process. Polarization transfer to through proton exchange and the nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) results in NMR signal enhancements of amide protons by up to 24-fold. These enhancements enable the measurement of fast two-dimensional NMR spectra on the same time scale as the folding.
