SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy can adversely affect maternal and neonatal health, although risks vary depending on the variant of concern (VOC). Omicron, although highly infectious, causes fewer maternal and neonatal complications than earlier VOC, so vaccination may be considered unnecessary in planned pregnancy. Using data from the CRONOS registry, we compared pregnancy outcomes according to VOC and vaccination status.

Methods: Standardised paediatric high-fidelity SBT was conducted in 12 of the 15 children's hospitals in Hesse, Germany. Before and after the SBT the study participants took part in two study scenarios (PRE and POST scenario), which were recorded using an audio-video system.
(1) Background: To improve the quality of emergency care for children, the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration offered paediatric simulation-based training (SBT) for all children's hospitals in Hesse. We investigated the quality of paediatric life support (PLS) in simulated paediatric resuscitations before and after SBT. (2) Methods: In 2017, a standardised, high-fidelity, two-day in-house SBT was conducted in 11 children's hospitals.

Electronic-cigarette or Vaping Use-associated Lung Injury (EVALI) represents a recent entity of respiratory clinical syndromes, primarily in young adults. We report a previously healthy 16-year-old boy who developed severe ARDS following a brief nonspecific prodromal phase after excessive consumption of e-cigarettes.

This is a rare case of FIRES with MOF and consecutive death. Only a few cases have been described in the literature.

Besides potential neurodevelopment impairments after intrauterine SARS-CoV-2 exposure, there might be differences in the postnatal pediatric care of those children, like the timing of preventive medical examinations (PME) or vaccinations. In this first national long-term follow-up study of women included in the CRONOS registry, we describe maternal impressions of their child´s development and the prevalence of regulatory disorders, and we analyze the timing of PMEs and vaccinations.

SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 disease are thought to have an impact on breastfeeding rate - besides other known peripartal issues. Data of the national CRONOS registry regarding breastfeeding behavior in 6,746 women was analyzed regarding the time window between maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection and time of delivery. In addition, other influencing factors like the predominant viral variant, maternal disease severity, and gestational age at delivery were taken into account.

We analyzed long-term follow-ups on women who experienced a SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy to evaluate post-COVID symptoms, particularly fatigue, and their association with quality of life (QoL).
Methods: 773 women who enrolled in the CRONOS registry between April 2020 and August 2021 were contacted for follow-up from December 2022 to April 2023.
Objectives: We aimed to determine the frequency of SARS-CoV-2 positivity in newborns born to mothers with peripartum SARS-CoV-2 infection in a German cohort, to identify potential risk factors associated with neonatal SARS-CoV-2 infection, and to present short-term outcomes of newborns with vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
Methods: Data on women with SARS-CoV-2 infection occurring anytime during their pregnancy was gathered prospectively within the CRONOS registry. From April 2020 to February 2023 a total of 8,540 women had been registered.
Introduction: Simulation-based training is increasingly used in pediatrics to teach technical skills, teamwork, and team communication, and to improve potential deficiencies in pediatric emergency care. Team performance must be observed, analyzed, and evaluated by trained raters. The structured training of medical students for the assessment of simulated pediatric emergencies has not yet been investigated.

Most common causes of rhabdomyolysis are viral myositis and trauma, hereditary metabolic myopathies must be considered when facing rhabdomyolysis in early childhood. We report two cases of severe rhabdomyolysis with CF in our PED, thereby summarizing first-line management of rhabdomyolysis.

The aim of the guideline is to provide recommendations for action in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic for professionals caring for the above-listed groups of people. The PICO format was used to develop specific questions.

In the treatment of high-risk populations, there has long been uncertainty about the extent and consequences of infection. This high-risk population includes pregnant patients.

Methods: Data acquired in two separate periods (March 2020 to August 2021; January to June 2022) for CRONOS, a prospective, hospital-based observational study (DRKS00021208), were studied with logistic regression models. Odds ratios comparing 32 with 22 weeks of gestation were calculated for relevant COVID-19-specific events occurring within 4 weeks of a positive test result.
Awareness of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women and the potential risk for infection of their neonates is increasing. The aim of this study was to examine the immune status of affected women and evaluate the dynamics of placental antibody transfer. The study included 176 women with SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy who delivered between April 2020 and December 2021 at eight obstetric maternity sites.

To compare accident- and injury-related admissions to pediatric intensive care units (PICU) during the first German COVID lockdown with previous years, we conducted a retrospective multicenter study among 37 PICUs (21.5% of German PICU capacities).
