Background: The NHS Jewish BRCA Testing Programme is offering germline and genetic testing to people with ≥1 Jewish grandparent. Who have an increased likelihood of having an Ashkenazi Jewish (AJ) founder germline pathogenic variant (gPV) compared with the general population.Testing is offered via a self-referral, home-based saliva sampling pathway, supported by a genetic counsellor telephone helpline.

Diagnosing movement disorders can be challenging owing to their similar clinical presentations with other neurodegenerative and basal ganglia disorders, like idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD), essential tremors (ET), vascular parkinsonism, multiple system atrophy (MSA), and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Technetium-99m labeled tropane derivative (99mTc-TRODAT-1) imaging can help in diagnosing Parkinson's disease at an early stage to help early initiation of the treatment. The current study aimed to evaluate the role of 99mTc-TRODAT-1 imaging in differentiating IPD and Parkinson-plus syndromes (PPS).

Article Synopsis
  • A survey of 55 healthcare professionals in the UK explored current management practices for advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (OC), focusing on testing for homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) and BRCA mutations prior to maintenance treatment.
  • All respondents emphasized the importance of considering cytoreductive surgery at first recurrence, with 65% advocating the use of DESKTOP III criteria to assist in decision-making.
  • Healthcare professionals noted that most primary OC patients in the UK have established HRD and mutation status, underscoring the growing recognition of secondary cytoreduction's role in treatment.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) of tumour-infiltrating immune cells in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) omental biopsies reveals potential targets that could enhance response to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Analysis of 64,097 cells identifies NACT-induced overexpression of stabilin-1 (clever-1) on macrophages and FOXP3 in Tregs that is confirmed at the protein level. STAB1 inhibition in vitro induces anti-tumour macrophages.

Premature menopause impacts 1% of women under the age of 40. The women are at risk of premature death, ischemic disease of the heart, neurological conditions, mood disturbances, psychosexual problems, osteoporosis, and subfertility. There is an imperative for less complicated protocols and enhanced approaches for oocyte donation to get pregnant and achieve motherhood in at-risk women.

Unlabelled: To compare the difference between primary homoeopathic and conventional paediatric care in treating acute illnesses in children in their first 24 months of life. One hundred eight Indian singleton newborns delivered at 37 to 42 weeks gestation were randomised at birth (1:1) to receive either homoeopathic or conventional primary care for any acute illness over the study period. In the homoeopathic group, conventional medical treatment was added when medically indicated.

  • People with T1a cervical cancer usually do well, but there's still a chance their cancer might come back, and doctors need better guidance on how to manage this.
  • A study looked at over 900 patients from different hospitals to find out more about the chances of cancer returning after surgery.
  • The study found that only 4.1% of patients had their cancer return, and it happened more often in certain groups, showing that certain things like lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) can change the risk.

  • Advances in genetic testing for breast cancer are becoming more integrated into diagnostic procedures, with new methods aimed at improving efficiency and patient experience.
  • A study involving 1140 women tested the effectiveness of two methods of delivering pre-test information: digital sources and traditional genetic counseling.
  • Results showed that digital information led to a higher uptake of genetic testing (90.8% vs. 84.7%) while maintaining similar levels of patient knowledge, anxiety, and satisfaction, suggesting a viable shift towards digital pathways in breast cancer care.

Article Synopsis
  • - Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease leading to heart issues, and enhancing the process of efferocytosis (cell removal by macrophages) is being explored as a potential treatment.
  • - Blocking CD47, which signals cells not to be engulfed, reduces plaque buildup but can also cause anemia due to red blood cell clearance.
  • - A new macrophage-specific nanotherapy was developed to promote efferocytosis without causing anemia, proving effective in early atherosclerosis models in pigs, showing promise for future treatments.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess whether the use of sentinel lymph node (SLN) in addition to lymphadenectomy was associated with survival benefit in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.

Methods: International, multicenter, retrospective study.

Inclusion Criteria: cervical cancer treated between 01/2007 and 12/2016 by surgery only; squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, FIGO 2009 stage IB1-IIA2, negative surgical margins, and laparotomy approach.

Importance: Population-based BRCA testing can identify many more BRCA carriers who will be missed by the current practice of BRCA testing based on family history (FH) and clinical criteria. These carriers can benefit from screening and prevention, potentially preventing many more breast and ovarian cancers and deaths than the current practice.

Objective: To estimate the incremental lifetime health outcomes, costs, and cost-effectiveness associated with population-based BRCA testing compared with FH-based testing in Canada.

Standard of care genetic testing has undergone significant changes in recent years. The British Gynecological Cancer Society and the British Association of Gynecological Pathologists (BGCS/BAGP) has re-assembled a multidisciplinary expert consensus group to update the previous guidance with the latest standard of care for germline and tumor testing in patients with ovarian cancer. For the first time, the BGCS/BAGP guideline group has incorporated a patient advisor at the initial consensus group meeting.

Objective: To determine the incidence of venous thromboembolism in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy in UK gynecological cancer centers. Secondary outcomes included incidence and timing of venous thromboembolism since cancer presentation, impact on cancer treatment, and mortality.

Methods: All UK gynecological cancer centers were invited to participate in this multi-center retrospective audit through the British Gynecological Cancer Society.

Objective: Although previous studies have described phenomenological diagnoses, they lacked description of aetiological spectrum in patients visiting movement disorders (MD) service. Herein, we classify the MD phenomenology and describe aetiology wise distribution of each phenomenology in patients visiting a tertiary care movement disorders service.

Methods: Collected information included demographic profile (age of onset, age at presentation, gender, duration of illness before presentation), predominant MD phenomenology [such as parkinsonism, dystonia, ataxia, tremor, chorea, ballism, myoclonus, tics, stereotypy, restless legs syndrome (RLS) and others], diagnostic evaluations and detected aetiology.

genetic testing is available for UK Jewish individuals but the provision of information online for is unknown. We aimed to evaluate online provision of information by UK organisations (UKO), UK Jewish community organisations (JCO), and genetic testing providers (GTP). Google searches for organisations offering information were performed using relevant sets of keywords.

Background: Parallel panel germline and somatic genetic testing of all patients with ovarian cancer (OC) can identify more pathogenic variants (PVs) that would benefit from PARP inhibitor (PARPi) therapy, and allow for precision prevention in unaffected relatives with PVs. In this study, we estimate the cost-effectiveness and population impact of parallel panel germline and somatic BRCA testing of all patients with OC incorporating PARPi therapy in the United Kingdom and the United States compared with clinical criteria/family history (FH)-based germline BRCA testing. We also evaluate the cost-effectiveness of multigene panel germline testing alone.
