Article Synopsis
  • The pedicled anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap is a valuable technique for reconstructing difficult oncosurgical defects in the lower trunk, perineum, and upper thigh without using microsurgery.
  • A study conducted from 2005 to 2008 involved 85 pedicled ALT flaps in 78 patients, primarily men with advanced inguinal cancer, and highlighted the flap's large size range and useful pedicle length.
  • The results showed successful coverage in all but one case, with no functional issues in knee movement observed among the patients post-procedure.

Introduction: Extensive burns elicit a pronounced metabolic response causing physiological derangements leading to the hyper-metabolic state. The hyper-metabolic response is accompanied by severe catabolism and a loss of lean body mass and also by a progressive decline of host defenses that impairs the immunological response.

Aims: A study was conducted in our hospital to assess various aspects of nutritional management of burns considering the ground realities of general hospital.
