  • A three-year-old child in Minia City, Egypt, was diagnosed with an intestinal mite infection after finding mold mite eggs and adults (Tyrophagus putrescentiae) and Blastocystis sp. trophozoites in his stool samples.
  • The child experienced severe abdominal pain and burning sensations around the anus, while other family members had the same mites in their feces but showed no symptoms.
  • Treatment involved ivermectin, given in three doses every 10 days, which resolved the child’s symptoms, indicating he was also dealing with an asymptomatic blastocystosis.
