To determine the basis for perinatal nutritional mismatch causing metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and diabetes mellitus, we examined adult phenotype, hepatic transcriptome, and pancreatic β-islet function. In prenatal caloric restricted rat with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and postnatal exposure to high fat with fructose (HFhf) or high carbohydrate (RC), we investigated male and female IUGR-Hfhf and IUGR-RC, versus HFhf and CON offspring. Males more than females displayed adiposity, glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, hepatomegaly with hepatic steatosis.

Current treatment protocols to prevent and treat pediatric obesity focus on prescriptive lifestyle interventions. However, treatment outcomes are modest due to poor adherence and heterogeneity in responses. Wearable technologies offer a unique solution as they provide real-time biofeedback that could improve adherence to and sustainability of lifestyle interventions.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) results from sequential genetic alterations in a normal hematopoietic stem cell or its progenitors giving rise to an autonomous clone that dominates the bone marrow leading to marrow failure. MicroRNAs are short non-coding nucleic acid sequences that regulate post-transcriptional gene expression by base-pairing with their target mRNAs. MiRNAs can be secreted into extracellular fluids and carried to target cells by vesicles or bound to proteins.

Assessment of topoisomerase II-alpha gene status by dual color chromogenic hybridization in a set of Iraqi patients with invasive breast carcinoma.

Background: The human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2) proto-oncogene is overexpressed or amplified in approximately 15%-25% of invasive breast cancers. Approximately 35% of HER2-amplified breast cancers have coamplification of the topoisomerase II-alpha (TOP2A) gene encoding an enzyme that is a major target of anthracyclines. Hence, the determination of genetic alteration (amplification or deletion) of both genes is considered as an important predictive factor that determines the response of breast cancer patients to treatment.

Diabetic ketoacidosis associated with tacrolimus in solid organ transplant recipients.

Diabetic ketoacidosis in patients receiving tacrolimus in the post-transplant setting is rare. We describe two such cases in solid-organ transplant recipients. The first patient, a 17-year-old male, presented with severe diabetic ketoacidosis and was managed with intravenous fluids and insulin infusion.

Knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding dengue fever among adults of high and low socioeconomic groups.

Objective: To ascertain the knowledge, attitudes and practices of selected adult population in Pakistan regarding Dengue Fever.

Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among selected communities with different socio-economic backgrounds in Karachi, Pakistan. A sample size of 440 adults (aged 18 years and above) were interviewed using a pre-tested questionnaire regarding their knowledge, attitude and practices about dengue fever.
